Shively is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was first settled by men from Virginia in 1820. Shively post office opened in 1824 and continued operation until it was discontinued in 1954. The first school in Shively was built on the site of present-day Walmart Supercenter. The school served students up to grade 8 untilened 1964 when it became a daycare center for children of local families who could not afford to send their children to school. In 1975, a private developer purchased the land that now makes up parts of Shively and constructed an apartment complex which became known as "The Cradle". Shively's history can be traced back to 1828 when settlers from Virginia arrived with fifty families and erected a log cabin on what is now State Road 3A about five miles east of downtown Lexington. For many years, only men traveled overland through this rugged terrain to get here; today, several roads lead into and out of town including KY Route 362 which parallels the old route overpassed by the original travelers. It wasn’t until 1861 that hardwood lumber started flowing into northeast Kentucky from Ohio via what is now Louisville and Nashville due to new railroad construction across Tennessee Valley country – making shivey one of the earliest locations within easy reach of Log Cabin Country logging operations! In 1865-66 while working as foreman on a sawmill south of town I noticed some people living around meaveledge but had no idea where they came from or why they were there since there seemed no connection between these people and any other place I knew or observed! I took some measurements and made some sketches mapping out possible origins/origins based upon physical characteristics & general trends being common among those engaged in this type of activity during that time period so I began investigations – learning more about my neighbors & eventually discovering just how connected we all were thru our shared activities

Shively was founded in 1824 by Levi Shively and his wife, Rebecca. The Shively family operated a grist mill on the banks of the Kentucky River for many years.
