They started a small farm near the present-day town of Bowling Green, which they continued to operate until their death in 1872. Shively was named for one of Sally's ancestors, William Shively, who had come from what is now Vermont in 1692. In 1825, Levi Shively married Sally Winchester (1811-1881).
