Shively is a small town in Marshall County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. Shively was founded on November 12, 1868 by John Fenton and his family. The name Shively comes from a nearby stream called "Hive." A post office called Shively was established in 1879, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1953. The community of Shively developed around the local Methodist church which first met in a log cabin on the banks of the River Shannon. Reverend Hargrave built an addition to the building which became known as "The Log Cabin" and served as the town's first schoolhouse from 1881-1885. The current First Baptist Church (built 1912) also serves as Shively's official municipal hall since its construction. In 1896, US Senator James Buchanan announced that he would run for President on a platform of modernization of America's social system through programs such as land reform and eugenics; however no action was taken with respect to Shively because Buchanan had only been elected to Congress four months earlier. In 1898, when Buchanan ran for reelection against William McKinley, he again failed to gain widespread support within America despite running an expansive campaign across all fifty states; this lack of support may have been due to Buchanan's reputation as a carpetbagger who did not really care about rural residents or Kentucky specifically which may have hurt his chances among farmers and other economic interests in eastern Kentucky who were key supporters of McKinley during his two campaigns. In 1904 Congressman John Burchill introduced legislation into Congress entitled "A bill to provide for development of central[ist] district No[va Scotia]". This bill would have given extra money towards developing areas east of Interstate 65 near Louisville while opening up much more acreage west of I-65 to farming so that more people could live there instead of migrating eastward seeking jobs neareróthe city limit where wages were lower than those closer to urban areasóand providing incentives for businesses located therein like logging companies etc.). However this legislation never made it out of committee before being abandoned by Burchill after some powerful lobbyists representing timber interests killed any attempts by him to get it passed without their help shortly before he left Congress effective January 3rd 1907. After leaving Congress, Burchill continued working on behalfof Centralia Land Development Company Limited (), later renamed Centralia Mining Co., Ltd.) until his death on December 5th 1951 at age 86 years old. When he died, Burchill left behind several children including wife Mildred Alice (); son Donnie Wallace (); daughter Laura Lynn (); brother Sandy Cramer (); sister Karen Howland (). All six children eventually married someone else and all but one currently resides outside Shivo

Shively is a small town in Breathitt County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Shively was James Clements who arrived in 1798. He named his plat "Clementsville" after his father-in-law, Colonel David Clements. James also had two children with his first wife: Mary and Johnathon Shively. In 1825 James' son Johnathon married Anna Witherspoon and they started to live on a farm east of present day Shively. The couple had six children: Samuel Pemberton Witherspoon (1826-1910), William Hennessey Witherspoon (1829-1900), Anna Cottonwood Witherspoon (1831-1903), Jesse Ladd Witherspoon (1833-1920), and Sarah Jane Ticknor Withersponnae (1835-1909). In 1852 the family moved to their current location about three miles west of downtown Shively when their daughter Sarah Jane married Drudray Weldon Gilmore from nearby Harveysburg that year. They raised five children there including daughters Laura Gilmore Weldon born 1854 and Helen Garlock Gilmore Weldon born 1860; sons Arno Garland Gilmore Weldon born 1862 and Everett Garland Gilmore Weldon born 1865; and Arnessa White Gilmore Weldonborn 1870/71. On October 15th 1889, George Tappan's store burned down near present day Main Street in downtown Shive
