Shively is a small town located in Clay County, Kentucky. The population was 527 at the 2000 census. Shively is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The land that now makes up Shively was first settled by farmers in the early 1800s. By 1825, there were only 10 people living in Shively. It wasn't until after the American Civil War that development began in earnest and by 1870, there were over 100 people residing in Shively. During the late 1800s and into the 1900s, steamboats brought tourists to view the beautiful limestone cliffs and crystal-clear waters of Kentucky's Bluegrass region. Many entrepreneurs started businesses around this time such as Jepson Brothers general store which still stands today on Main Street. The village grew steadily with many residents working their farms, fishing or hunting for various products shipped downriver from Louisville during these years including coal, river otters, hogs, rabbits and other animals. In 1922, when a new bridge spanning Clay Creek was built linking Shively to nearby Shelbyville (then known as Bledsoe) became obsolete due to heavy traffic congestion on I-65 southbound between Louisville and Nashville; Mayor Waddy McGee announced plans for a community center and park within five miles of downtownShivellians voted unanimously (71 percent) to support annexation by Shelbyville on November 3rd of that year meaning all but one resident moved into what would become their new home over winter weather conditions!lvillage Hall still stands today as one of only two remaining buildings from those early days of growth along Clay Creek Blvd.; much like its namesake it has seen many iterations over time including being used as an administrative office for Schools & government agencies before becoming finally our current day " Community Center"

Shively is a town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,919 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Shively was Richard Ritchie in 1814. He and his family were among the early settlers who built what is now known as Old Shively on land that he and his father acquired from James Caldwell. In 1836, John Patterson laid out a town plat for what is now Shively and named it after him. The first post office was established in Shively in 1840. By 1860, there were over 100 residents in Shively. In 1885, the Louisville & Nashville Railroad came through Shively on its way to Louisville, Kentucky; this made it an important trading center for the area between Louisville and Knoxville. The millinery industry declined during World War I due to restrictions placed on exports by Germany; however, it began to revive after the war when American production shifted to wartime production needs such as cotton candy and shoe leathers. During World War II, lace manufacturing increased because of demand from military personnel stationed abroad; however, bombing raids destroyed much of Catlettsburg’s lace industry during World War II so most lace products were exported to Canada or Mexico instead. It wasn’t until 1984 that lace-making became a legal activity again with permission from the state government after years of being banned under previous leaderships.; today much of Catlettsburg’s lace production takes place out of state thanks to investments by local businesses including Boileau Lace Incorporated which operates one of two remaining lace factories outside of Cincinnati., which manufactures ladies nightgowns for Walmart.. In 2013-2014 there was significant investment brought in specifically around lace making with plans announced by Mayor Floyd Metcalfe Jr along with other local leaders including Assistant Mayor Nancy Pugh creating a new entity called “Lace Lexington” which will assist local businesses marketing their products within Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area through events such as tastings and demonstrations
The Shively community was founded in 1837 by John and Rebecca Shively. The couple ranched land near the present day town of Mentor, Kentucky. In 1838, they built a cabin on their property which served as the nucleus for what would become the town of Shively. The first post office was established in Shively in 1840. By 1865, there were only 10 residents living in Shively. However, over time, the population grew and by 1890, there were over 100 people residing in Shiverty. In 1923, the post office closed and was replaced by the current building that stands today.
