Shively is a small town in Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hazardville-Ft. Worth, KY Micropolitan Statistical Area. Shively was founded in 1855 by John Shively and his wife Anna (née Cunningham). The town was named for Anna's grandfather, George Shively, who had come to America from Ireland in 1779. George Shivey operated a sawmill in the town until 1875 when he sold it to David Overstreet. The first post office in Shively was established on December 12, 1857. It was called "Plymouth". In 1865 the post office moved to "Milton" and changed its name to "Shively". In 1897 it became "Ft. Worth". In 1907 it became "Hazardville". In 1951 the post office closed because of budget cuts and reopened at the new location of present day Hazardville-Ft. Worth, KY on October 1st with headquarters inside the old Post Office building that had been abandoned for years as a result of vandalism and fire damage caused by termites. At that time Ft Worth became an incorporated city which led to changes within the community with regards to Name Use guidelines set forth by local government officials; consequently all future incarnations of Hazardville-FtWorth were known as Shively before finally settling on their current moniker about 15 years later when their downtown section began redevelopment following general decline throughout much of central Kentucky due largely to population growth elsewhere in metro Louisville resulting from increased affluence within what used once comprise Appalachia's most poverty stricken region outside Appalachians themselves... Today much like his namesake back then John A Farrellshive continues farming with additional tenant farmers working extensive tracts along US Route 61 providing necessary access while also investing heavily into municipal infrastructure including light rail service connecting Ft Worth with Lexington/Northern Kentucky via Amtrak
