Shively is a small town in Pike County, Kentucky, located on the Ohio River. It was founded in 1814 by General James Shively and his family. The first gun made in Shively was a muzzleloader called the "Hawk." Manufacturing of firearms began here in the early 1800s and until about 1910, all handguns were made in Shively. The first handgun to be imported into the United States was an English model Cocker Spaniel named Pistolero. After being imported into the country, Pistolero was sold to Captain John Ritchie of Louisville, Kentucky, who turned him over to Anson Phelps Dodge Company for shipment to Mexico City. Upon arrival there, Phelps Dodge Company stored Pistolero at their plant near Chapultepec while they awaited orders from President Polk. After several months of delay and after becoming frustrated with president Polk's inaction on arms shipments to Mexico City, Captain Ritchie took Pistolero back across the border and brought him directly to Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show at Fort Washburn (now Cheyenne) on July 25, 1866. In addition to pistols exported from Shively during this time period (1866-1910), other guns produced here include shotguns (the Model M rifle), revolvers (the Colt Detective revolver), rifles (the Winchester Model 1890 Prussian carbine), hunting rifles (the Winchester Model 70 Long Rifle) and machineguns (the Browning Automatic Rifle). In 1902, two brothers - Wm. Hargrave Elwell and George Virgil Elwell - started a company that produces parts for firearms manufacturing plants throughout Kentucky including those in Pike County. By 1906 their company had become known as Virgle Firearms Corporation which continued production until 1921 when it merged with National Arms Corporation of Indianapolis Indiana becoming part of National Gun Works Incorporated which then became Springfield Armory Incorporated before finally merging with Remington Arms Company in 1898 becoming Remington Arms & Co., Ltd.). From 1898-1920 Springfield Armory produced more than 1 million firearms including shotguns alone amounting to more than 60% of all handguns ever manufactured by Remington Arms Company outside of North America During World War II government contracts were awarded for production of military hardware such as ammunition tanks and artillery pieces among others prior to Shively's role as a center for firearm manufacturing operations ending around 1990 when most production moved northward along Interstate 77 out of what is now Pennsylvania

Centerfire magazines hold rounds in both chambers equally; revolvers have one chamber that holds rounds differently than other chambers, while shotguns have two chambers that hold rounds differently). Shotgun magazines also hold rounds in both chambers equally; however they must be loaded before firing (i.e., you cannot fire a shotgun until you have fired all its rounds). Next comes the frame or housing which contains various components such as the trigger guard, hammer/barrel assembly, stocks/slugs/seamless feed system, safety mechanisms (such as triggers), bolt carrier group (the component that moves the round downrange), sights/glocks (which can include iron sights or night vision equipment), recoil springassembly/, groupsetting (), and more!
The Shively Arms Manufacturing Company was founded in 1881 by Hiram Shively and his brother-in-law, John W. Beale. The company became a leading manufacturer of handguns in the early 20th century. In 1916, the company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester, Inc. In 1935, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington Rand Corporation. The modern day Remington Firearms Company is headquartered in Olathe, Kansas City, Missouri.

In 1874, the Shively Presbyterian Church was organized with a membership of sixty-five people. In 1903, the church built a frame schoolhouse which served as its headquarters until 1954 when it became Mrs. Harry Ladd's homecomingpresentation gift to Shively citizens). The first post office building erected near present day Shively proper was a one story log cabin built by Jno Tompkins in 1865 (later known as "Hinkle's Store"). It housed a shop and post office until 1898 when it burned down; however, a new store house was constructed soon afterwards (now First National Bank Building). In 1902, Drury & Company began construction on their largest mercantile enterprise yet when they erected their two story brick building at 4200 Old Donelson Pike which remains extant to this day as Third National Bank Building/Shively High School today! The hydraulic fracturing operations that took place nearby during much of 2013 have caused extensive damage to both buildings however no loss has been reported to date!
