There were also several events throughout the year to celebrate such things as parades and picnics being held at different locations around town including Poolesville Park (a tennis venue), Old High School (now known as Heritage Hall), Masonic Lodge #4 (the oldest building in town), Presbyterian Church (later First Baptist Church) and more! Today, much has changed for Shively since it's founding: One of its primary businesses is now called "Shively's" which specializes in home delivery service; another business is now an online retailer; downtown has seen some redevelopment including new shops/restaurants/condos; while Poolesville Park remains the main source of entertainment for locals & visitors alike during summertime months!

The mill continued to be in operation until about 1870. One of the most important activities that took place during the early years of Shively was its role as a transportation hub for goods moving between eastern Kentucky and western Indiana and Illinois. In 1802, a wagon road known as the Wabash Road was constructed from here to Indianapolis (then called Bloomington). This route would later become part of state Route 66. In 1812, a post office was established at Shively; it would eventually be discontinued in 1825 because of lack of customers. The first school opened inShive on December 10, 1830; it was located on Main Street and operated by private citizens until 1840 when it became public school property under the auspices of the State Board of Education. A girls’ high school followed shortly thereafter (1848-1849). An additional two schools were opened: one for boys (1869) and one for girls (1901). One notable resident during these years was Judge John Hays who served as justice of peace from 1881-1900 and also represented Kentucky on various state commissions including those responsible for regulating railroads
