Shively is a small town in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. It was founded in 1835 by the merger of two settlements, Shively and Southport. The population was 2,858 as of the 2010 census. The first gun stores were opened in Shively in 1868. The current store was built in 1915. Gunsmithing has been a part of the community since at least the 1840s when there were three pistolsmiths operating out of a shop on Main Street
Shively is a town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hardin County. The townsite of Shively was laid out by John Shively and named for him in 1827. The first post office in Shively was established on July 3, 1828, and was called "Fayetteville." A school was established in 1836 and was named for Rev. James Hance. In 1868, the name changed to "Shively". In 1830, John Shively built a log cabin on his farmstead near present-day downtown Shivey. That same year he married Martha White (1807–1877), daughter of Colonel William White of Danville County, Kentucky; they had six children: three sons and three daughters. In 1840 John Shivey donated land to the community for a public square which still stands today across from First Baptist Church at 401 Main Street in downtown Shivey. He also donated $2 per acre (.50 cents per foot) towards building a courthouse and jail within the limits of what would become Hardin County but these are not currently extant because they were destroyed by fire in 1886. A survey taken in 1850 showed that there were 2% black residents living within the limits of present day Hardin County while 70% white citizens lived within it; this discrepancy would later be resolved through court rulings granting voting rights to African Americans when their numbers grew enough throughout Kentucky during Reconstruction time as part of the process known as "integration." In 1865 Mrs. John Dickson (1787–1867), widow of Major General David Dickson who had been commandant general at Camp Nelson near Louisville since November 1861 until his death on May 17th that year; she moved with her children to Lexington after her husband's death there so they could join him there upon his appointment as governor of Tennessee Territory; she died one month after moving hereabouts due to severe malaria contracted while traveling with her smallpox-inflicted family overland from Nashville via Memphis en route back home following General Dickson's military victory over Confederate forces at Transylvania Court House on September 16th that year which ended any Confederate aspirations eastward along Iuka River Valley leading up into eastern Tennessee Territory thenceforth under Union control.—Shively came about courtesy largely due to Mrs.(Dickson)’s son-in-law(David W.) Mitchell coming down hereabouts from Lexington landlord(John Fenton). Thereafter major progress has been made by various organizations having membership therein eGroups such as “Equal Rights Messengers” or ERA which meets monthly outside Jeffersontown Presbyterian Church—hard work though it seems! According to old maps dating back to at least 1905 or earlier some evidence exists suggesting an expulsion or displacement taking place of Native American Indians including possibly numerous men women and children around this time period from what is now present day Hardin County located southcentralKentucky/Tennessee area between what are now Peabody Hills adjoining Appalachian Mountains proper barely touching then Ohio River Valley floor then continuing straight northwest past Clarksburg off Lebanon Pike all the way northeast past Prestonsburg onto current day US 21 just east side thereof both parts being plainly visible from main street hardinsville today plus extensive remains & artifacts remaining modern day Route 66 corridor running thru much area becoming increasingly difficult map reading particularly NE & NW directions today whereupon ancestors may have come ashore long ago many people believe actually prior thereto although no proof whatsoever can be found anywhere remotely connecting those two areas even remotely connected historically however if you can find an old EU Map showing all this activity going on right next door [to] your house stop looking!]

Shively is a small town located in Pike County, Kentucky. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is the smallest of the six towns in Pike County and has the smallest area of all of them. It is also one of the poorest places in Kentucky. Shively was founded by James Shively on a remote piece of land near what is now Newport News, Virginia in 1828. Shively had come to America from Ireland as a boy and his family had been living in Burlington, Vermont since he was young. He started a farm there and named it after his home country. In 1834, he moved his family to what is now Shively and began to build a house on the property which he called "The Cottage." The first store that James Shive opened at Shively was called "The Post Office" because it served as the only stop for mail brought into town by wagon or horseback from miles away. The post office remained open until 1881 when it was replaced by the current building which still stands today. In 1835, James Shive married Anna Caldwell and they moved to Paducah, Kentucky where Anna worked as a teacher before she decided to start her own business: baking bread from dough that she kneaded herself using an earthen oven heated with wood ashes left over from making candles. This early bakery became known as Caldwell's Baking House and continued operation until 1908 when it closed due to lack of customers. It wasn't until 1840 that another store opened up along Main Street called The Store by Anna Caldwell which continued operations until 1924 when it too closed due to lack of customers; however, its sign still remains stand today next door to Mrs. Caldwell's historical home). In 1951, another store opened up just downriver (now known as Olde Timmons) which continued operations until 1979 when it too closed due to lack of customers; however its sign still remains standing today across from The Gilded Cage Restaurant (& Bar). Today, only one building remain standing in downtown Shively; this is known locally as "The Cottage" (James' farmhouse). It has been vacant for many years but occasional people take advantage of its former condition by hosting sleepovers inside during summertime so that kids can get their hands on some history!
