Some historians maintain that as many as 30 percent of all Virginians who left were either killed or taken prisoner during the retreat northward into Canada (the so-called “American Revolution”). Others claim that even fewer people actually left Virginia – most likely less than 10 percent – due to factors such as weather conditions (extreme cold wintering months) or military considerations ( British forces were withdrawn from North America aftermath of the American Revolutionary War). Whatever the case may be, what we do know is that very few people lived through those tumultuous days leading up to independence on July 4th, 1776 when Virginia seceded from Great Britain. In December 1800, York County was organized out of portions of both Jeff Davis Parish and Botetourt County west of rapids Lick Creek (now called Elizabethtown Road), including much territory now within Highland Park neighborhood [on east side]of I-65]. That same month also saw creation of Pike County adjacent to Knoxville across Clear Fork River from Cumberland Valley except for about 8 miles along Scottsboro Roadwest thereof where Scotchtown Manor now stands; this area then lay within present day eastern Randolph Township . . . On January 24th 1801 James Fenton [former director general post office] designated land lying southwesterly beyond Catoctin Creek between Potomac Mountains& Monongahela River for public school purposes only & ordered surveyors forthwith to explore means how this convenient tract might be developed into a large village site without giving preference either to any particular person or family It should be noted here that streets were not laid out until well afterRichmond's incorporation as there weren't any proper surveying tools available at that point! Fenton's order represented an important milestone because it signaled that developers were interested in developing Richmond into a viable commercial center rather than simply providing educational opportunities for local citizens/schoolchildren like earlier efforts had been focused upon! This interest soon translated into action because within two years thereafter developer James Fenton Jr., Sr., donated enough money[ reportedly $15,000 ]to help initial construction begin on what would become known today as Liberty Square Shopping Center! In addition he donated land northeast along Elizabethtown Road near modern day I-65 for future development including Richmorhind Hospital [which opened its doors on October 3rd 1922], Four Freedoms Monumental Building [opened in 1927], Presbyterian Church [added later], numerous retail stores and other businesses! After just seven yearsRichmond had become one OF THE LARGEST CITIES IN KENTUCKY!!!

In 1802, the town was founded by Colonel John Sevier and named for Prince George, Duke of York, who later became King George IV. Richmond grew rapidly from a small community to a full city during the late 19th century. The influx of new immigrants helped fuel Richmond's growth and made it one of the most diverse cities in the United States. By 1910, Richmond had a population of over 200,000 people. In 1916, after years of planning and construction, Richmonds downtown district was completed and named for then- Mayor Richard J. Daley. It served as the nucleus for much of downtown Chicago until that city's displacement by other downtown neighborhoods in the late 20th century began to erode its former significance.
