Richmond, Kentucky is a small town in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette- cipher metropolitan area. After Union forces took over Louisville on April 12, 1865, they began requisitioning supplies from all over eastern Kentucky including Richmond which functioned as a supply depot until May 9th when Confederate General Jubal Early destroyed everything within miles radius due to lack of food or munitions; this event is generally regarded as one of the turning points in the war for Union forces. On November 3rd 1863 Spotswood organized what would become known as "the Cavalry Division" under General Ulysses S.
