So in 1857, the City Council decided to purchase land from a white farmer named George Fenton and build a new walled city on what is now known as Monument Hill. The new walls were made out of bricks and mortar and they had several cannons mounted on them. The wall also served as a warning to any potential attackers that Richmond was protected by its own forces.

The first government meeting ever held within present day Richmond took place on January 7th, 1792 when representatives from nine counties met to discuss forming a government under the guidance of James Kieft. This event helped lay the groundwork for later efforts by various groups to form an effective government for their respective communities. One such effort was led by John Adams who represented Randolph County and desired more representation for his area within the new nation. After successfully petitioning for membership into that newly formed country, he soon found himself involved with some heavy political honors including serving as President George Washington's Secretary at War during his residence at Mount Vernon during its construction (1799-1800). He would later be elected Governor of Virginia (1801-02) before becoming Vice President under James Kieft and participating in negotiations leading up to America's declaration of war against France (1812). In 1814, Richard Jefferson moved his business operations from Alexandria Virginia back to Richmond after purchasing land here following his election victory as Mayoralty candidate. His decision marked a turning point not only because it demonstrated how popular he had become but also because it signaled that Virginians began to take seriously their role within newly formed United States society. By 1830, other prominent Virginians such as James Kieft and Edmund Randolph had followed suit and established themselves here permanently or temporarily due their significant investments or connections hereabouts. These early settlers helped create what would become today’s makeup of Richmond’s influential citizens; most notably through their contributions towards local businesses and education opportunities for future generations. As time went on however there were others quick to move into town - ones who saw advantages no matter what: railroads brought economic opportunity while technological advances allowed residents easier access both inside and outside their homes than ever before; thus further enhancing life quality without havingto leave home altogether- these people are often considered among our earliest arrivals into this vibrant community we know today! It wasn't until downtownRichmond lost much commercial value due largely to commuting costs associated with jobs outside city limits that residents decided they'd rather live elsewhere... yet again! Today’s downtown provides plenty evidence that while hard times have come & gone throughout our history - Richburgians always find ways TO keep moving forward! Richmond was founded by James Robertson in 1795. It became an independent republic in 1802, and was renamed Richmond after General George Washington. The city grew rapidly during the 19th century, becoming one of the largest in Kentucky. It suffered from several disasters, including the Great Fire of 1871 and the Louisville Earthquake of 1876. The population declined during the 20th century, but has recovered somewhat since 2000.
