Radcliff, Kentucky is a small town located in Pike County, Kentucky. The population was 885 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pike County and the home to theRadcliff Historic District. The town was founded by Quakers in 1805. The first rifle stock company in Radcliff was organized on October 9, 1818, by Captain John Sheffer and Ensign John Hargrave. Captain Sheffer served as captain of Company K of Second Regiment Knox County Volunteers during the War of 1812. On November 11, 1818, Captain Sheffer and Ensign Hargrave were discharged from service due to wounds received at Blue Grass Battlefield in Illinois. On December 14, 1820, Captain Sheffer's son George Wrote an article for "The Patriot" newspaper about his father's experiences with rifle stocks in the War of 1812. In this article he recalled that his father had a large collection of rifles which he used for target practice at home: "My father having acquired some excellent rifles from Captains Laird and Robertson (two officers who fought at Fallen Timbers), we made use of them very largely in our military exercises." Captain Sheffer's second wife died soon after their marriage so Colonel James Southerland purchased her land which became known as Southern Ridgefield Township near present day Radcliff KY (in Pike County). Colonel James Southerland also bought 300 acres within Southern Ridgefield Township which became known as Green Gables Township. barracks erected thereon are still standing today on site now known as Green Gables Barracks Road/Route 12A - just south of intersection with US-280). Colonel James Southerland also donated land to create what is now Radcliff Cemetery located west side of courthouse square across from post office dating back to around 1800s when Andrew Jackson was president

At first support for the Union was limited to rural counties inside of Virginia; however, when Confederate General Robert Ewell invaded Kentucky it quickly became apparent that Union support would be necessary if he were to succeed in takingover eastern Kentucky. Accordingly, President Abraham Lincoln ordered General Ulysses S Grant to send forces into northeast Kentucky to support General Ulysses S Clark while he besieged Richmond. This action allowed Union forces under Major General Nelson A Miles to captureRadcliffe without battle on July 16th 1865 - an event which helped solidify Radcliffe's reputation as one of America's most important trading posts during the war years. Since its inception as a small townradcliffe has seen many changes both positive and negative - including several natural disasters (the most recent being Hurricane Floyd which struck early September 2015) but also numerous efforts undertaken by localsto maintain local businesses and culture unique to thetownspeople themselves

Radcliff is located on the Cumberland River and is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Radcliff was Andrew Jackson who arrived in 1796. He built a cabin on the riverbank and named it after his brother-in-law Colonel James Robertson (1763-1812). Captain John Hays established a ferry across the Cumberland River in 1811 and named it Hays Ferry Landing after him. A post office called Radcliff was established in 1819, and remained operational until 1828. The settlement grew rapidly during the 1830s because of its location near major transportation routes. In 1837, radcliff was chartered as a town by order of the Kentucky General Assembly under the name Hazardville. In 1850, more than two thousand people lived in Radcliff when it became one of fifteen towns consolidated into Louisville under new law that increased urban growth throughout eastern Kentucky. At that time, Louisville had become one of America's largest cities with over twenty thousand residents and its downtown core was becoming increasingly commercialized as businesses moved westward from downtown to outlying areas such as Jefferson Barracks and East Liberty Streets along Fifth Avenue between Market Street and Spring Garden Road. By 1860, only about five hundred people lived in Radcliff while most of its nonresidential buildings were used for storage or for agricultural purposes by local farmers. However, many people continued to live in small villages scattered around central Hardin County through late Victorian times until they too were annexed by Louisville following an act of Congress on November 1, 1896 which designated all rural areas within county boundaries as city blocks subject to annexation by their larger neighbor without any vote or compensation from those living within those walls During World War II much activity took place at nearby Naval Weapons Stationon Elkanna Island which produced high numbers of munitions because this vesselyard produced submarines (USS Indianapolis / USS Alabama), planes (F4U Corsair) and other aircraft products for both allies and Axis powers including Japan's Type 99 "Sansho" dive bomber despite being classified as a militaryArsenal
