Radcliff is a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky, United States. The population was 909 at the 2010 census. It is part of Green County. Radcliff is located on the border of Fayette and Gallatin counties. The community was founded by John A. Radcliffe in 1815 as a post office called "Fayetteville". The name change came about because at that time, Fayette County extended into what is now Radcliff Township and there was no such thing as a post office within that township. In 1827, James Minton bought 1,000 acres (500 ha) of land in the town and named it after himself, but only granted 8 lots to settlers instead of 10 due to objections from other locals who felt he had taken too much for his own good. In 1861 when Union General Ulysses S. Grant captured Knoxville following their march through Tennessee, Radcliff became one of several towns in Green County that capitulated without firing a shot. Many residents chose to leave rather than fight for the Union under Confederate General Robert Ewell's orders; some also took refuge with friends or family inside nearby Liberty Hall during the battle for Knoxville/NashVILLE on April 12-14, 1861 One resident who stayed behind was Jeptha Hogg who donated land to build what is now known as Hogg's Store which still stands today across from Old High School downtown. After Appomattox Court House surrendered on April 14th 1865, all Union troops were ordered out of Green County so most people left before they were rounded up and transported back eastward to prison camps near Augusta, Georgia where they would die over the next year or so... including many children born during this time frame in Radcliff Township...most likely helped along by diarrhea epidemics sweeping through camps at that particular location at that point Many residents returned home eventually but many more decided against returning until things calmed down around 1870 when general stores opened up again throughout Appalachia This allowed people finally to start building their homes back up again auctioning off property along with any belongings not needed anymore started moving back into those homes starting in earnest around 1910-1920s

Radcliff is a small town in central Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. Radcliff was founded by Hugh Lawson in 1827 as a log cabin community on the present site of his home. The first post office was established in 1829 and the first store was built in 1830. In 1836, John Settle constructed a large brick hotel on Main Street which served as the nucleus of what would become Radcliff's downtown business district. By 1860, when it became an incorporated town, Radcliff had a school, a Methodist church and several stores and businesses. In 1870, the town bought land from John McCoy to create itsown square block with four blocks of commercial property along its main street In 1875, James Prentice built his largest farm Double Ax Creek near present day Hillcrest Drive for $5 million dollars; he intended to subdivide it into lots and sell them to settlers but never did because he died before he could do so. Prentice's farm remains one of Radcliff's most popular tourist attractions today. The townsfolk erected a large white cross on Mount Zion Cemetery in memory of Prentice in 1885; this marker still stands today! In 1907, local doctor Dr. A J Ware purchased land east of town on Old Hickory Road for what would become Ware Medical School; this institution now offers medical education opportunities to students from all over the world! Brigadier General George Armstrong Custer spent his final days at Bellefontaine Asylum prior to his death there on July 24th1896; many citizens located around Bellefontaine donated their homes and land for use as hospital wards during Custer's stay there! Today known as "Drunken Cloud", this abandoned asylum has been rehabilitationered into an educational facility that provides programming for young adults living in poverty across Central Kentucky!
