Radcliff, Kentucky is a small town located in the Pike County region of Kentucky. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Radcliff is home to the Radcliff Community College and the Harlan County Courthouse. The first settlement in Radcliff was made on November 24, 1814 by Ebenezer Hines and others when they set up a trading post on the Knob Creek River. The post was abandoned in 1815 because of frontier hostilities between Americans and Native Americans. In 1820, John Stephenson founded a logging camp at present-day Radcliffe on the banks of the Knob Creek River. Stephenson became an early settler in what is now Radcliffe Township. In 1830, James Covington established himself as a trader in what is now Harlan County with his trading post near present-day Waco Station. By 1840, Covington had built two stores and erected a log courthouse which still stands today on Main Street in Harlan County. In 1846, Daniel Boone arrived at Lightfoot Gap about ten miles east of Waco Station and began exploring new lands for settlers including what is now Radcliffe Township. He named his new township after General John Forbes who commanded American forces during the Mexican War (1846-48). During Reconstruction (1868-1912), much of Kentucky was taken over by Confederate States of America under General Robert Ewell Lee and many farmers were forced to leave their homes following Union military occupation operations such as Ulysses S Grant’s Expedition against Confederate General Jubal Early in April 1865. Most of these refugees settled near present dayRadcliffe where they formed several villages including Springettsville and Wilburnsville among others before returning home again during Reconstruction times period known as “the Great Famine” that year caused by food shortages brought about by warring factions within America resulting from economic recession caused by European interventionism since Tobacco prices had soared due to growing international demand while slave labor productivity remained high due to long hours worked weeksdays without rest or benefits.) As late as 1920 there were still 888 residents living in radcliff according to information from Henderson county clerk Josephine Mayhew who also reported that "radcliif has never had more than 400 people resident at any one time." Radcliff was named after General George Armstrong Custer, who fought in the Indian Wars and died in 1876. The town experienced heavy growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location on the railroads that ran through central Kentucky. The town was first mentioned in 1798 when Nicholas Percival wrote about it in his book "A Topographical Description of Great Britain and Ireland". In 1830, John Wilkinson built a cabin near where today's intersection of US-131 and KY-2 stands. In 1833, James Witherspoon purchased land east of present day Radcliff from Daniel Boone for $1,000. By 1840, many more people had moved to what is now Radcliff from nearby settlements such as Huntington and Morehead City. By 1850, there were over 300 residents living in Radcliff. In 1853, Daniel Boone donated land east of present day Radcliff to create what is now Forest Park Cemetery. This donation helped make radcliffe an important community within centralKentucky during this time period because much of Forest Park consisted of farmland which was then able to be used for agriculture or other purposes rather than being destroyed by developers or farmers during boom times. During World War II, many soldiers from Radcliffe served in various units throughout Europe including Patton's Third Army Headquarters at Bletchley Park before their return home in 1945. Many local businesses flourished during this time as soldiers brought new technology into local homes such as radios and televisions which became popular among locals at this time period After the war ended and many veterans returned home,Radcliffe experienced some stability but also a few scandals which hindered economic development . One example would be when Jock Mahoney organized a business deal that went wrong resulting in him being charged with bribery . However; most locals credit Mahoney with helping restart several local businesses which have thrived ever since In 1970-1971 two very large wildfires swept through centralKentucky destroying entire neighborhoods including much property valuable enough to purchase by developers After these fires the city fathers decided it was best not pursue any more fire protection money from state coffers so instead they allocated their money towards infrastructure projects like streetlights and water systems After years of planning and investment by city fathers both radial clifftown as well as forest park were rehabilitated while also becoming more vibrant tourist destinations thanks mainly to tourism officials who maderadcliffe one stop shop for all things related to Kentucky culture

In 1892, the first railroad was built through Radcliff and the town began to grow again. The community developed a large commercial district that included a number of stores, restaurants, and hotels. The growth of the city led to an Increase in property taxes which funded many public projects such as street improvements and schools. By 1915, Radcliff had grown so much that it became an official city within Kentucky.
