The community flourished during the late 19th century and early 20th century due to its fertile farmland and strong industrial base. Today, Radcliff is a small but vibrant community with a rich history that can be seen in its many landmarks and businesses. The first settler in Radcliff was James Robertson who arrived in 1825. He operated a mill at the site which continues to operate today. Other early settlers included John Capps, Robert McClure, Alexander McKenzie, and David Henderson. By 1830, the population of Radcliff had grown to around 100 people. In 1834, the Potts brothers organized a wagon road from Lexington to Pikeville which helped support the development of Radcliff as an agricultural center. During the late 19th century, Radcliff became one of America's most important cotton plantations due to its fertile land and well-developed industry. Many large companies such as Singer Sewing Machine Company (now known as Sams) and Jardine & Hornblower created their headquarters here during this time period. This rebirth helped spur further growth for both towns thanks to key wartime recruitments such as truck drivers and machine operators; these workers contributed greatly to increased production levels throughout the 1940s and 1950s. However, by 1978 average sales prices for radcliffe ® products had decreased significantly relative to those experienced during earlier decades; this decline was largely attributable to increasing competition from cheaper foreign imports on account of rising global prices for raw materials caused by technological advances over time .
