The Hargrave family ran the business for more than a century, until it was taken over by their son-in-law, William Garrison. Garrison turned the store into a tool and Die shop, which continued to operate until 1949. From 1949 to 1984, the business was owned by Harry Howland Sr., who also ran it as a pawnshop. In 1984, Howland sold the business to his son Harry Howland Jr., who kept it running as an antique weaponsmiths shop until he passed away in 1990.

The town was founded in 1827 by Captain John Radcliffe and his wife Elizabeth. The name comes from the Welsh word "radu", meaning “bridge or bridge-maker” and "cliff" because it overlooked a ravine which served as a crossing for goods travelling between Logtown and Kendal. In 1892, J.B. Hinton built the first store in Radcliff, which became one of the most popular stores in the community. In 1903, George Witherspoon donated land to make into a golf course that would eventually host two major professional tournaments: The Open Championship and The Masters Tournament (now known as Augusta National Golf Club). In 1922, Drury College moved to Radcliff from Danville; it became Radcliff College of Technology in 1966. In 2004, King's Mill reopened after being closed for more than 20 years due to arson?
