Paducah is a small town in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson County Metropolitan Statistical Area. Paducah is home to Paducah State University and its campus in downtown. The area that now includes Paducah had been settled by the Shawnee and other Native Americans from north-central Indiana for hundreds of years before European exploration began in the early eighteenth century. In 1795, Colonel William Henry Harrison arrived in Kentucky with his army during the French and Indian War, and he founded what would become Paducah on July 15, 1795 as a trading post on the confluence of the rivers White and Blackoucha near present-day Tellico Hills. By 1800, paduccaneers had begun operating out of Paducah; one account says they "made great profits by plundering traders travelling through this part of Kentucky." In 1801, General James Wilkinson built Fort Henry onland at what is now White Sands Beach to better protect Paducah against Comanche raids. In 1802 Wilkinson moved Ulysses S. Grant's army downriver to again fortify Paducah after an unsuccessful attempt by General Andrew Jackson to cross the Ohio River into Canada; when Jackson's army reached Louisville on November 25, 1802, it burned Fort Henry and retreated across the river to join up with Wilkinson's force besieging Knoxville. In 1803-4 general John Buford led an abortive attack against Mobile Bay which resulted in heavy losses for both sides; following this raid George Rogers Clark sent Maj.-Gend Washington’s cavalry company under Lt.-Colonel John Armstrong (later Brigadier-General) against Buford near present day Huntsville on January 6th – 7th1804 but were repulsed with heavy loss for Armstrong’s command including Colston’s horse “Hercules” who became famous because he recaptured it from a Confederate straggler five miles distant). American forces then moved inland towards Mobile where they met British Admiral Samuel Graves' fleet off Cape San Jacinto on February 20th1805 under Commodore John Dahlgren but were repulsed with heavy losses for Dahlgren commander Isaac Watts USN captain of HMS Hecate who became famous because he captured two hundred Spanish shot guns taken from Longstreet's flagship CSS Virginia off Pensacola Florida during operations around island Cuba - see also USS Lexington action). For several months thereafter regular warfare between American regulars and militia continued along coastal sections of Alabama & Mississippi . On March 30th1805 Commodore Dahlgren destroyed six large cannonballs Fired from shore batteries near Mobile Bay while Rear Admiral Stephen Farragut sailed his squadron alongshore engaging two ships belonging to Commodore Graves – this event has been called “the Battle at Mobile Bay” although no such battle took place actually and only one ship was destroyed whileparticipating in Commodore Graves' Action). Casualties among both sides can never be accurately estimated since no records exist detailing how many men died or were wounded as a result of these engagements however it is safe to say that upwards of 100 Americans were killed or wounded within twenty four hours period whilst Admiral Graves lost none personnel.] A few weeks later Wilkinson ordered Major James Bowie back upstream from Baton Rouge To help him build boats To go downstream And take rice away From CreekTown Paduca hiked 4 miles westward seeking water source we found creek not much water left so we turned back soon after paduca state university

Paducah is a city in and the county seat of Paducah County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 19,457 at the 2010 census. The metropolitan area had a population of 34,624 as of 2017. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson County, KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Paducah's early history can be traced back to 1811 when it was founded by Captain James Lewis and his wife Elizabeth on the banks of the Ohio River. Lewis named his new town after John Paducah who led an unsuccessful expedition against modern-day Kentucky in 1799. The first school in Paducah was built on what is now State Street in 1814 by Colonel William Blount, Sr., one of Paducah's early settlers. In 1821, General Nathan Bedford Forrest drove American Indians from their lands near present day Paducah and founded Forrest County based on this action. By 1850, Jedediah Smith had platted what would become today's downtown and erected the first courthouse in that area. However, it wasn't until 1861 that Paducah proper became a town under the name "Paduca". At this time its boundaries expanded to include much of downtown Louisville including what is now Eastern Market Square and much of Southeast Side Park (now Vine Street). In 1865 during Reconstruction following the American Civil War most slaves were freed within Union lines which created an influx of black people into Kentucky without losing their African heritage which also helped contribute toPaduca's nickname as "the Negro City." In 1969 residents voted to remove all references to racism from government property including City Hall and public streets with only historical names remaining such as State street/Downtown square or Vine street/Eastern market square still used today (although not exclusively). In 1992 Mayor Frank Juglar merged with neighboring Jefferson County form one political entity called "KY Forward". As part of this merger some business properties located within city limits were transferred to Jefferson County while other properties remain within city limits but are managed by KyForward staff. KyForward has since been renamed "Pendleton Mayor’s Council" after former Mayor Darrell Ewing who served from 2003-2009 before leaving for personal reasons; he was succeeded by current Mayor Greg Stanton who took office on January 1st 2009 Pending annexation by Louisville Metro governmentPotential annexation has never been discussed due to lackeeing support from both sides
