Restoration began almost immediately after the fire but took many years and some extremely hard work before thingsrestored completely to their original condition

Paducah, Kentucky is a town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hardin County. Paducah was founded in 1814 by General James Wilkinson and named for his father-in-law's birthplace in what is now Paducah, France. The first post office was established in Paducah on July 10, 1816. The present Paducah courthouse was built in 1908 and dedicated by Mayor A.W. Stephenson. The original Hardin County Courthouse building burned down on December 5, 1907 and replaced by the current structure two years later. There are also several other buildings located within the city limits of Paducah which date back to different periods of its history: the Masonic Lodge (1881), National Bank (1892), Baptist Church (1896), Presbyterian Church (1912), School District No 1 (1915), School District No 2 (1920). In 1821, Colonel John Gist organized a relief expedition to Kentucky after Indian raids had destroyed many homes and crops in that state; he called upon Major Joseph Grimke for help with organizing this force and Grimke became one of Paducah's first mayors during this time period. In 1852–53, following the American Civil War, General Ulysses S Grant visitedHardin County as part of his general tour through America; while there he stopped at Paducah to view some cannons brought over from Europe that were being used against Confederate forces near Corinth Mississippi

In 1814, Paducah became a county seat of Campbell County. The population of Paducah grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location along the river and its access to trade with surrounding states. However, because of overpopulation, poverty, and environmental problems, Paducah experienced several tragedies including an 1846 fire that destroyed much of downtown; a 1966 flood that ruined many buildings; and most recently, the tornado outbreak of May 8-9 that killed at least thirteen people.
