Grant at Battle of Fallen Timbers outside Cincinnati, Ohio, he retreated upstream along the river to try to find a new route through Indian Territory east of Nashvillevoiding all hope that he would be able to cross into Tennessee without being discovered by Native Americans who had been raiding his territory for some time. On July 12, 1815 General Jackson's army reached what became known as "the Forks", opposite Owensboro on the Ohio River about north of where it now stands; here he ordered his artilleryiers to bombard a fortification near present day Jones Falls after learning that an Indian force was nearby trying to crosses overland from Illinois into British America undetected On October 8eenth 1815 President James K. Polk signed Executive Order 9265 which called for construction of a road between Louisville and Nashville with no consideration given to any other settlements in Pike County save those within ten miles of each city center – this order led directly to establishment of Owensboro as one of three towns within that region designated as "Indianola" – lands lying immediately south and east of either city center were also included within that designation but not until much later when development around what are now its downtown areas began In 1830 David Witherspoon founded Witherspoon University in Owensboro with land donated by Drury Allyn & Company merchants who had become interested in agricultural education after seeing an opening created for such an institution on their neighbor's farm just beyond downtown – today Witherspoon University has more than 3300 students enrolled across 11 campuses throughout Kentucky During World War I local businesses helped supply munitions factories located outside Lexington with food products like flour and canned goods necessary for war production while others manufactured jewelry and other items needed exclusively by military personnel including buttons, medals, boots and bayonets In 1948 white Main Street became historical when Governor George Wallace declared martial law following demonstrations organized by black militants calling themselves White Citizens' Councils; under martial law all citizens were required carry government endorsed identification cards which allowed police access to record any individual they wished including your name or photograph Due largely to Interstate 75 being built connecting Cincinnati with Lexington via Louisville during this same period many jobs moved out there while Owenton experienced significant decline although it remains one of Pike County's most important economic engines still providing employment opportunities today

Owensboro is a town in Kentucky, United States. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. Owensboro is the county seat of Hardin County. It is part of the Lexington, Kentucky metropolitan area. The first settler in what would become Owensboro was James Hancey in 1820. By 1830, John Pritchard had arrived and built a small cabin on the present site of Owensboro Courthouse Square. In 1832, William Mays founded a grocery store in what became known as "Maysville." A post office called Owensboro was established in 1835, and remained open until 1865 when it was renamed Hardin County after General Robert E. Lee's army fought against Ulysses S. Grant's army at Appomattox Court House near Petersburg, Virginia. In 1845, David Ritchie settled near present day downtown Owensboro with his family and began marketing strawberries to local farmers and merchants along High Street. In 1850–1851 Isaac Butt built a small log cabin on what is now First Baptist Church Lane for his wife Sarah and six children; this would be the nucleus of today’s town center which still stands today within striking distance of both downtown restaurants and shopping malls across Interstate 65 just east of campus at University Park Plaza On October 12, 1861 Confederate soldiers under General Nathan Bedford Forrest laid siege to Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor.(see: Civil War) Confederate General Robert E Lee ordered all civilians within 3 miles (5 km) of Fort Sumter to leave before its bombardment commenced on April 12 that year(see: Battle of Fort Sumter). As most residents were busy tending their farms or visiting friends & family insideFort Sumter for Protection & Asylum purposesmany did not know about or hear about the goings-on outside their gates…. Upon hearing about the shelling from adjacent farms nearby they quickly gathered around fortifications pour levanting pots & pans to see if they could help protect their property….. Just as things seemed hopelessly womens' husbands ran into buildings to getUpdated information on how many people lived insidefortress& started putting wagons filled with food insideto cook…… Women who had been caring for their families while menfolk were away began packing up picnics they had taken outsideto take back inside………………………………… At 10am on April 15th 1860 Federal troops stormedthe fortand took control without firing a shot….. Most citizens who remained behind surrendered unconditionally………. Over 100 Confederate soldiers were killed including Generals Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson during these attacksthe largest engagement between Union forces & Confederates up until then
Owensboro was founded in 1788 by John Owens and his family. It became a cotton plantation town after the area was surveyed for a post office in 1802. The town was renamed Owensboro in 1862 to honor General Robert E. Lee, who had fought in the American Civil War. Owen's Plantation continued to be active until it closed its doors in the early 1990s.
