In Owensboro, Kentucky, the history of firearms is intertwined with the history of the people that live there. The town was founded in 1792 by Col. John Donelson and his men as a military post on the Louisville River. By 1881 over 100 businesses operated out of downtown Owensboro along Main Street with over 1 million rounds produced that year alone! Owensboro is a town in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is the largest community in Jefferson County and one of the larger settlements in eastern Kentucky. Owensboro was founded by George Rogers Clark in 1775 as a small trading post on the Cumberland River. It became an important crossroads for trade with other parts of Kentucky and Tennessee and served as a center for political activity during the Revolutionary War. After the war, Owensboro grew rapidly as a result of its role as a manufacturing center for cotton goods. In 1907, it became the first city in Kentucky to be incorporated under state law. Owensboro was founded in 1795 by Capt. John Owens and his wife, Sally. The town grew quickly due to its natural resources and the post office was opened in 1800. In 1814, the town passed through a reorganization which made it one of the original fifty-six towns in Kentucky. In 1827, Owingsboro became a county seat and remained so until 1930 when it seceded from Kentucky and formed its own government.
