Owensboro is a town in and the county seat of Whitley County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 11,075 at the 2000 census. The first settler in Owensboro was James Cockerill, who arrived in 1792. By 1815, Owensboro had a population of over 200 residents. In 1826, General David Ritchie moved his army from Louisville to take part in the Battle of Perryville against Native Americans. Heading north from Winchester on July 9th he encountered several thousand warriors led by Chief Joseph that included some of the most famous Indian fighters of the day such as Tecumseh and Kit Carson. After a three-day battle which ended with an overwhelming victory for Ritchie, local citizens donated land to cover most of what is now downtown Owensboro; this area became known as Green Mile Park. In 1868, businessman John Mudd founded J Mudd & Co., one of America's earliest cotton brokers and merchants. The company soon became one of Owensboro's leading businesses and exported both raw cotton and finished products throughout much of Eastern Europe including Ukraine and Russia before opening its own branch office in Kiev in 1899. J Mudd also began importing cattle into Whitley County beginning around this time to increase production on their small ranch near current day downtown Owensboro; these operations would continue until 1949 when they were purchased by Swift Meatpackers (now Tyson Foods). During World War II, many workers came to work at local munitions plants such as those located just outside town along KY Route 25A during 1942-1945; these jobs created thousands more jobs statewide once war ended but also resulted in high levels of pollution due to manufacturing processes which took place close unto streams/lakesides where munitions were made."Owensboro: A History" In 1951 Mayor Clyde Edmonds announced plans for a new shopping center adjacent to then existing Municipal Auditorium which would eventually become home to Regal Cinemas followed by other retail development over time including Stroud Chevrolet dealerships (now used by Ford) during this time period while churches continued Topps Post Cards service through their ministries well into present day. This era saw Owensburg grow rapidly becoming one of America’s fastest growing cities with skyscrapers being erected all across downtown while major highways facilitated easy access both into town via Broadway Avenue or High Street while smaller streets served as destinations for locals looking for restaurants or other services.

Owensboro is a town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Owensboro was founded in 1802 by Revolutionary War veteran and slave holder John Owens and his wife Charity. It became part of the Louisville metropolitan area after it was annexed by that city in 1907. In 1916, Owensboro was moved from its original location on the left bank of the Ohio River to be closer to Interstate 65. The community currently stands on the site of an early log cabin that John Owens built in 1799-1800 for his family. Other early settlers included brothers James and Job McCracken who arrived around 1802; David Brown in 1807; Joseph White in 1809; James Hawkins (1811-1893) who owned several slaves until he sold them free in 1830; and George Hogg (1796-1868) who arrived November 15, 1814 with his father Hugh Hogg. The first post office opened at Owsborough on January 5, 1800, under the name of "Nashville." When Louisville Post Office moved to downtown on May 24, 1898, Nashvillians elected Drury Ladd as their first postmaster because they could not get any other man to accept the job. By 1901 there were 375 residents living in Nashvillian Township while 205 lived within what is now Pike County due to annexation by that county during the late 1800s and early 1900s In 1907 when Louisville metropolitan area became enlarged with Gasconade Parish into which Owensboro had been annexed,[1] many people from both counties decided to move into what would become known as "the new city". This group purchased land east of downtown which they named "East Fork" after their personal creek that ran through their property. They soon realized that this location would not work well for them because most of the businesses located there did not have enough customers or space for them all to operate together. One example of this problem was Harry's Barbecue which had two locations - one on Main Street and one across Prospect Avenue from where East Fork began – but only made about $10 per month from sales at its Main Street store alone despite having over 100 reviews online boasting about its delicious barbecue! So they decided to close up shop at East Fork and move back into downtown where they could sell food instead Eventually word got out about these new developments so much so that business owners along I-65 started advertising services such as moving cars or hiring drivers just so people could go visit East Fork As more people began moving into East Fork and discovering how great things were going there including restaurateurs like Ray’s BBQ who opened a restaurant right next door[2], locals grew tired of being watched 24/7 by developers looking for an opportunity to build Eventually they voted unanimously on December 21st 2006 to form a municipality called "Owensboro" which took effect January 1st 2007
In 1785, the area that is now Owensboro was part of Transylvania County. The county seat was at Louisville. In 1811, Kentucky became a state and Transylvania County was redesignated as part of Clark County. In 1825, Clarksville became the first permanent settlement in what is now Owensboro when James Fenton built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the river. By 1830, Fenton had two other cabins and about fifty people were living there. By 1840, there were over one hundred people living in Clarksville and around town. There were also stores, banks, churches and schools in Clarksville. The town started to grow rapidly and by 1850 it had a population of three thousand people. Growth continued until the turn of the century when defense against Native Americans led to an increase in logging and farming activities in the area which caused traffic congestion on Main Street. In 1907, Owensboro became an incorporated city with a population of six thousand people. It grew rapidly during World War II because of wartime production needs for munitions plants located nearby such as Bauxite Mine #2 (now known as Alcoa Coal) and Hutchison Paper Mill #1 (now known as Southern Pipe Line). The city experienced rapid growth again following the collapse of its housing market in the late 1990s due to factors such as skyrocketing property values, changes in zoning laws that favored industrial development over residential use, Masonry Plant closures throughout much of central Kentucky after closure of various mines including Alcoa Coal Mine #2 (now known as Pegasus Energy), Hutchison Paper Mill #1 (now known as Southern Pipe Line), among others; however these events did not cause sudden decrease or cessation in population size or economic vitality within Owen'sborough City Limits
