In 1861, when John A. McClarty purchased land east of town from the Campbells for $4 per acre, he began to build a flour mill which would produce 50 bushels of flour per day; this made NicholasVILLE an important factor in regional trade during the early years of America's Civil War. By 1865, McClarty's mill had produced over 1 million bushels of flour annually for local markets around Louisville and Glasgow; this helped contribute to Louisville's victory at Fort Donelson in September 1863. In 1865-1866, Nicholasville became home to one of America's first fairgrounds when governmentowned land on which it stood was leased by local farmers for use as a horse farm complex known as "Goldsboro". The fairgrounds continued to be used until 1991 when they were sold off to developers who demolished most of the original structures including both buildings that housed the fairground machinery and also many small ponds that served as dog Exercise pens while allowing nearby residences access to view them from their yards! It wasn't until 1990 that developer Harry Hines realized how valuable those small ponds could be since he could create several large parks on top them which now surround downtownNicholsvilley making it not only a popular tourist destination but also an important business district with multiple restaurants,. There are currently plans underway to redevelop those acres into another major tourist attraction called "Downtown Nicholsvilley" with much more extensive programming than just petting zoos etc!

By 1890, most foreign-born residents had left for various reasons: many found work on railroadroads or went west to join families who had already landed there; others chose to return home because they could not stand the industrial monotony of life in an agricultural society; still others decided to stay because they could not find any other place to live without fear of being deported or mobbed by fellow citizens on their way home from work or church services
Nicholasville was founded by Nicholas Ford in 1792. The town was named after General George Washington. The Ford brothers were the first to settle in Nicholasville and started a tannery. In 1814, the town was surveyed and platted. It became a city in 1907.
