For many years the only means of transportation for residents was walking or riding their horseback roads around the village center which they affectionately called 'the green.' In 1982, new blood entered into Nicholasville when two businessmen from Louisville agreed to build a shopping mall here which would include an amusement park and other businesses. That same year saw the opening of the first post office in Nicholasville with mail delivery starting on July 13th! The future looked bright for Nicholsville as more businesses came online to help support its growth - but then came World War II and all hell broke loose! With so much demand placed upon local resources during wartime (especially food) production slowed significantly while prices rose dramatically making it difficult for most residents to keep up with costs associated with living peacetime standards Many homes were lost during this time as families simply could not afford to rebuild following such devastation But even after the war ended things didn't go too well as crime rates began soaring and overall economic conditions continued to decline . In 1969-1970 Nicholsville's large housing development became known as 'the projects' when construction started on what would eventually be one of America's largest apartment complexes . Unfortunately these days few if any locals still live there since rent has become prohibitively expensive .
