Gun magazines have a long and proud history in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The first gun magazine in the area was established in 1848 by Captain John S. Hennepin and his brother-in-law, Colonel James G. White. Captain Hennepin had been a captain in the United States Army when he founded the first post office in Nicholasville, which served as the local armory until it was destroyed by fire in 1881. The Captain's Store became the first brick building in Nicholasville, and its ground floor housed the first store of its kind west of Louisville, Kentucky. Captain Hennepin later established a second post office at what is now downtown Nicholasville and continued to operate his store from that location until 1861 when he moved his business to what is now First National Bank Building on Broadway Street. In 1864, Captain Hennepin donated land for what is now Knox County Courthouse Square and built the courthouse on that site. The next year, he also donated land for Old High School (now East High School) which eventually became one of the most important educational institutions inNicholasville. In 1865, Colonel White organized what would become known as "The Volunteer Cavalry" which consisted of men from Nicholasville who volunteered their time to serve with various regiments during the American Civil War. Many of these soldiers later returned home after service and started businesses within town such as Wernham & Sons grocerystore and Cavanaugh's shoeshine shop before disbanding their units or returning home permanently around 1870-18711 After serving their country fully duty they were allowed to come back into town under Reconstruction rule where they set up businesses once again including Piggly Wiggly grocery store located on Broadway Street near present day Central State University campus today). The following year saw another donation from Captain Hennepin which led to establishment of The Second National Armory where local citizens could purchase firearms without having to go through an arms dealer locally or traveling far away2 This armory would continue operations until it was destroyed by fire circa 19033 After this event physical evidence suggests that gun magazines began disappearing from rural areas across America4 Gun magazines continued operating however online sales dominated over print sales throughout much of this period5 By 1909 there were only 10 active gun mags left nationwide6 These days there are quite a few active gun mags scattered throughout different parts of America7 There is even an active magazine based out of Nashville TN8
