The local high school, which opened its doors to students in 1969, is one of only two high schools open for enrollment without discrimination or preferential treatment from any school district or government official. The city of Louisville offers many education opportunities not available to residents of Nicholasville such as: night classes for seniors; daycare; private tutoring; and vocational training programs. There are also several businesses located within walking distance of theNicholasville Elementary School that offer various services such as hair-dressing, pet-sitting, plumbing and carpentry services amongst others. Nicholasville was founded by Nicholas and his wife, Hester, in 1811. The town was named for Nicholas' father-in-law, John Nicholas. John Nicholas had been a soldier in the American Revolution and had served as a justice of the peace in Kentucky. In 1812, he moved to Kentucky and founded the city of Lexington. However, when Kentucky became an Indiana Territory in 1813, John Nicholas decided to stay in Kentucky and keep his business activities there. He died in 1815 at the age of 70 years old. Nicholasville growth started slowly but surely during the 1830s and 1840s due to its strategic location on the Cumberland River between Louisville and Frankfort. By 1850, it consisted of just over 100 residents with a post office and two stores. By 1860, it had grown to 1,500 people with a school district and five churches. In 1865, Nathaniel Banks donated land for what would becomeLiberty University which soon became one of America's most prestigious universities. After Reconstruction ended in 1865 following the Civil War, Nichollerville experienced rapidgrowth thanks to new manufacturing industries such as coal mining and railroads that arrived after Reconstruction ended. Finally reaching its peak population size by 1880 thanks to lumber production from the Sawmill Creek National Forest adjacent to townspeople cleared land for farming purposes which began producing harvest crops such as cotton, corn (maize), potatoes etc., beginning heavy industry within Nichollerville limits about 1910 despite prior claims by some historians that no manufacturing took place within Nichollerville boundaries during this time period because there was no need for large factories nearby due increased transportation costs associated with opening up new areas into Union territory following World War I In recent decades much has changed aboutNicholsonville including declines in population due mainly to factors such as loss of jobs associated with Appalachian Coal Miners' Pension Plan bankruptcy etc.; howeverresidential development remains high quality with many nice homes being built along Sawmill Creek Road since 1990; significant amounts of historic infrastructure remains largely intact - including several churches dating back more than 200 years; traditional arts & crafts continue even though some original businesses have closed; operates successfully as an agricultural center providing food products like pork bellies
Nicholasville is located in the Louisville-Jefferson County, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 49,846 at the 2010 census. It is one of two cities in that area (the other being Lexington). Nicholasville was founded on December 12, 1815 by Nicholas Metcalfe and his family. The city was named after Colonel John Covington of the Continental Army who died during the Battle of Bunker Hill on April 6, 1775.
