On July 1, 1871, Nicholasville was the home of the first Winchester rifle factory in Kentucky. The factory produced rifles for the Union army and Western gun dealers. Nicholasville is a small town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,749 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Nicholasville College and the original site of Uniontown, which was founded in 1775 by Colonel George Rogers Clark. The town was named after Nicholas (Newman) French, an American Revolutionary War veteran and member of the Kentucky Assembly. The first known settler in Nicholasville was John Nicholson who arrived in 1786. The first post office opened in 1802 and was called Newtowne. In 1814, Nicholasville became a county seat under the name of Uniontown. After being removed to Pike County from Uniontown on account of its smaller population, the post office remained at Uniontown until it closed in 1893. Nicholasville is located at (38.839211,-86.566827). According to the USGS there are three villages within Nicholasvillle limits: Nichols Village (northwest), Prospect Heights (east), and White Flint Township (southwest). all three have post offices with ZIP codes 73064-0921, 73118-2911, and 73061-4010 respectively According to the 2000 census there were 1,591 people residing inNicholasville when it began to be included as part of Pike County on January 1st 1999 In terms of race/ethnicity Nicholuscity accounted for 98% while only 2% were White As part of its history from early 1800s until todayNicholsvillette has had many different residents come through including several Presidents including James K Polk rowdy nights starting about 1830 usually involving whisky or beer according as one man got too drunk then others would join him he became known as "Old Nick". A preeminent figure during this time period was ColGeorge Rogers Clark who helped found what would becomeUniontown back in 1775 while also serving as a delegate to both houses of Congress during that time period making him one some considered America's Founding Father

Nicholasville was founded in 1792 by Nicholas Dixon. It was named for the General Washington who had helped to bring about the American Revolution. The town was originally located on the east bank of the Ohio River, but it moved to its present location in 1817. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century and by 1907 it had reached a population of over 3,000 people. Nicholasville became an important transportation center due to its position at the junction of two major roads, the Allegheny and Ohio Railroad and Kentucky Route 20. In addition, it became a manufacturing center because of its production of lumber, textiles, and shoes. In 1916, Nicholasville became a city and until 1930 it remained under rural control. However, when it merged with neighboring Uniontown into one city-based operation, Nicholasville experienced rapid growth and prosperity. During World War IINicholasville played an important role in supplying munitions to Allied forces as well as providing employment for local residents. After the war ended in 1945,Nicholsonvill sent workers back into production throughout Kentucky thanks to government largesse which continues today. Today Nichollsville is home to over 6300 residents and is one of America's fastest-growing cities
