Ammunition manufacturers soon sprang up throughout the state, providing soldiers and citizens with necessary tools for war. The Second World War brought many changes to ammo production. After America entered the conflict in 1939, Ammo Production Centers were set up all over the country to help produce munitions quickly and efficiently. Nicholasville is a small community in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. Nicholasville was founded as an early post office in 1820 and named for Nicholas Hargrave, who served as a judge on the Cumberland County Circuit Court from 1821 to 1830. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location at the junction of two major trade routes: the National Road and the Ohio Canal. Because of this, Nicholasville became known for its manufactures: cattle Provisioning House (now called "Cattlemen's Store"), wagon body builder John Suggs & Co., saddlery maker Ewing Bros., cigars manufacturer Davidoff Brothers, flour miller J.B. Moore & Son and soap company Gentry Soap Works. In addition to these businesses, many homes were built in Nicholasville during this time including Belle Vernon House (a national historic landmark), John Ritchie House (now home to Eastern Kentucky University) and Porters Landing House (now used as a hotel). During World War II, Nicholasville played an important role in helping supply troops fighting overseas with food and supplies. Thanks to its facilities located near Junction City and Hopkinsboro,Nicholasville also played a significant role in developing local agriculture which has helped provide jobs for locals since then. Today, Nicholasville remains an active community with lively social activities and intense economic growth thanks to its close proximity to major metropolitan areas such as Lexington/Fayette and Louisville/Jefferson County
