The history of gun magazines in Newport, Kentucky goes back to 1892. At that time, the town was a small farming community located in Jefferson County. The first gun magazine in Newport was called the National Rifle Association (NRA) Magazine House. It was built on the corner of Main and White Streets. The NRA Magazine House served as a place where members of the NRA could purchase ammunition and read about rifle shooting techniques. In 1897, the NRA moved to its current location on Market Street in Newport. The new location provided more space for storage and allowed for greater access to ammo and information about firearms. In addition, the new location offered a more formal design than the previous one. The original NRA Magazine House had an asymmetric design with two stories tall and four stories wide at its widest point. This layout made it difficult for members to move around inside without causing damage or damaging equipment. The present-day NRA Magazine House is also significant because it is one of only two remaining examples of an early 20th century gun magazine east of the Mississippi River. The other example is located in Buffalo, New York!

Newport is known for its seafood and bourbon industries. Newport was founded in 1811 by James Robertson and his brother John as a trading post on the Ohio River. The town grew quickly because of its strategic location on the river's mouth and access to resources like timber, coal, and salt water. In 1831, James Robertson donated land to make Newport a city. Newport became an important port on the Ohio River and prospered thanks to its industry and proximity to other cities such as Louisville and Cincinnati. In 1870, during Reconstruction following the American Civil War, General Ulysses S. Grant appointed Mayor Isaac Pritchett as leader of Reconstruction Newport due to his experience with African Americans in Louisville who had been freed from slavery there by Union troops under General Philip Sheridan. The local seafood industry continues to be one of the town's mainstay businesses today; however, bourbon has become increasingly popular in recent years as a result of its link to history and culture in Newport (which traces its roots back much earlier). The first Bourbon distillery in Kentucky was built here in 1799 by Captain Elijah Craig Jr., who named it "Newport Distillery". Newport was founded in 1795 by Captain John Smith and his associates, who came to Kentucky from North Carolina. The city is named for the English port of Newport on the English channel. In 1801, General James K. Polk landed at Newport and made an unsuccessful attempt to invade Canada. In 1805, General Andrew Jackson arrived in Newport and defeated a British force there. After the American victory at New Orleans in 1812, Admiral David Barron sailed through Newport harbor to land at Yorktown off Virginia Beach on October 19,1814. Commodore Joshua Barney's squadron of vessels anchored within 100 yards of Independence Hall when Confederate Vice Admiral William Tuthill galloped up and ordered them to leave without firing a shot! The townspeople successfully prevented their capitulation and clapped their hands when they saw the cannons atop Fort Independence Tower light up as they signaled their surrender! The first courthouse in Newport was built near what is now Market Square in 1810. It burned down in 1815 but was replaced by a new courthouse located on Third Street between Washington Avenue and Elm Street (now First Street). The old jail which stood on Eighth Street between Frontenac Avenue and Main Street was also destroyed but replaced by a new jail located on Fourth Street between Highways 6W and 9W around 1840. A number of stores were built around this time including Jno.'s Wharf Store (now called WHarfside), Barnes & Noble bookstore, Johnnie's Coffee House (now known as Nextdoor), Lafayette Hotel (founded in 1849), Wm.'s Bathhouse (established 1865), Mrs.'s Piano Shop (opened 1870) The first school was opened in 1796 by Reverend Nathaniel Saunders with three students under his instruction. It burned down two years later but was rebuilt with more students enrolled soon after. One of Saunders' pupils became Rev Ethan Allen who taught moral education until he resigned from teaching due to religious differences with other abolitionist teachers radicals like himself had organized into schools across Kentucky during this time period! In 1800, Allen began giving private lessons starting from $2 per hour! He quickly became successful enough that he decided to open his own school which continued operating until it closed its doors in 1906! In 1830, the Cumberland Road Bridge over the Monongahela River was completed connecting Cincinnati with Knoxville via Delaware County which then included part of what is today Pittsburgh County (!). Because much trade occurred along this road including agricultural goods heading north towards Pittsburgh while goods heading south towards Philadelphia or Baltimore passed through Lancaster County along the Susquehanna River }, several mills were built along Cumberland Road such as Alcorn Mills (founded 1830) There are also several historic sites located within or close to Newport including: Fort Nashoba Site National Historic Landmark – home of President George Washington’s Headquarters during his stay at Valley Forge; Pritchard’s Lighthouse – one of only two lighthouses remaining standing that operated before 1923; Ashtabula Canal National Historical Park - includes parts of both Ashtabula County where it ran concurrent withthe Monongahela River for many miles; Battle Creek Indian Expedition Trail Heritage Corridor - includes portions of present-day Cleveland Township where clashes took place between United States forces loyal to Chief Joseph O’Neill vs Ulysses S Grant’s army led by General Ulysses S Grant
The first settlers in Newport came from England in the early 1600s. The city was founded on the site of an Indian trading post, known as Point Comfort, in 1692. In 1755, the French made a land purchase from the Shawnees and moved into Newport. The French began to build Fort Charlevoix in 1763 and built a dockyard there. In 1775, when independence was granted to America, the British moved their military forces out of North America and took up residence in Newport. The British used Newport as a embarkation point for troops heading to Quebec during the American Revolution. After the war ended, many Englishmen returned to Newport and started businesses such as slaving ships and rice plantations. In 1802, Commodore James Kippenberger established Naval Academy at nearby Portsmouth Naval Shipyard so that American sailors could be trained for naval service. A year later, he donated land for downtown Newport’s first city hall and built it around a court house on Market Street. In 1812, John Brown led his followers into Kentucky to protest slavery while they were waiting for their shipment of supplies from Canada (the event is sometimes referred to as “The Battle of Monmouth”). When they reached Newport Harbor they burned most of what they had brought with them including some cannons. This event is commonly regarded as the beginning of the Civil War in America
