Newport, Kentucky is a city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 3,031 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. The city was founded by James Robertson in 1792 and incorporated as a town on November 3, 1826. It became an independent city on December 15, 1907. The current mayor is Donnie Newhouse. Newport lies along the Ohio River just downstream from Cincinnati and about midway between Louisville and Lexington. Its location provides easy access to both cities for shopping and dining. Robertson's business acumen allowed him to marry local girl Rebecca Keyes on October 1, 1796; they had three children: James (1801-1876), John (1803-1889) and Robert (1795-1865). "James Robertson's House" stands today on Market Street near where the first store built here opened in 1827 next door to Robertsons' brother David Keyes Store which still stands today." Robertson's House soon became one of America's most popular tourist destinations thanks to its unique architecture - it featured a broad front porch flanked by two low colonnades that gave it an air of grandeur while wide windows let natural light flood into every room inside." The house was used as a hotel until 1978 when it was purchased by businessman Donnie Newhouse who then turned it into one of America’s most popular tourist destinations for events such as weddings and other special occasions." These individuals were responsible for developing many of the town's key amenities such as businesses and schools; they also helped maintain stability during times of emergency or conflict. In fact, many people who lived and worked in Newport may have been responsible for saving that community from total destruction during the Civil War era.
Newport, Kentucky is the oldest town in the state of Kentucky and was founded on July 4, 1792. It is located on the banks of the Cumberland River and has a population of over 10,000 today.
