He manufactured missiles for World War II from his home until he died in 1957. In 1951, the town voted to stop selling tobacco products to its residents because of concerns about health risks posed by smoking inside schools; however, this ban was repealed two years later when federal officials determined that no harm had been done to students as a result of the prohibition. However, smoking remains illegal outside of business establishments such as restaurants and bars located within 500 feet of any school or playground (although exceptions are made for private residences).
