When the town of Mayfield, Kentucky was founded in 1820, it was a small farming community. By 1830, the population had grown to around 100 people and by 1840, it had reached 300. The townspeople started their own school in 1842 and soon there were also two churches and a post office. In 1854, Mayfield became the county seat of Campbell County and soon after, a courthouse and jail were erected.Gun magazines first began appearing in Mayfield in 1865 when two men named Stephenson and Green purchased an old gunsmith shop on Main Street from John Cane. The first magazine ever published in Kentucky was called "The Western Rifleman" which was published by Stephenson and Green for three issues beginning February 1, 1865. By 1870, there were at least 15 gun magazines located throughout Campbell County with at least one being published every week. By 1880, the number of magazines had increased to 25 with one being published every Saturday night. At this point, the magazine industry had become very consolidated with only a handful of companies publishing magazines throughout most of America. However, within just five years of its inception as an industry staple in Kentucky*, gun magazines would go out of business due to prohibition*. After prohibition ended in 1920*, gun magazines continued to be published sporadically until they went out of business completely around 1930.* Only a few surviving examples can still be found scattered throughout different parts of America* but they are all valuable collectors' items.*

Mayfield, Kentucky is a small town in the Pike County area of central Kentucky. The population was 9,764 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pike County. The first settlement in present-day Mayfield was founded by James Caird and his family in 1795. The first post office was established in 1826, and the town became a part of Caldwell County when that county was created from parts of Sullivan and Hardin counties on February 1, 1837. Mayfield experienced rapid growth during the antebellum period as a result of its location close to Bourbonnais, Louisville, and other important centers of industry and commerce. By 1860, the town had over 12,000 residents and was home to two banks and several factories. During the American Civil War (1861–1865), Mayfield served as an important military depot for Union forces moving southward along the Ohio River. After hostilities ended, Mayfield slowly resumed its normalcy until 1872 when it again became part of Caldwell County after it was made an independent parish by Order No. 6of Bishop Richard Brounson. The community has experienced steady growth since then as various businesses have moved into Mayfield: agricultural production has become increasingly important due to improved soil conditions; manufacturing began replacing agriculture as one of the primary industries during World War II; and educational opportunities have arisen through addition of several colleges/universities to its mix since 1990s. In recent years however some declines in activity have been noticed which could be attributed to economic trends within central Kentucky struggling amid overall global competition; nevertheless total housing units are expected to reach 10,000 by 2030 based on current trends if all planned construction projects are completed successfully according to unrealized plans. Today'smayfieldschoolDistrict comprises six elementary schools (grades K-8), three middle schools (grades 9-12), one high school (grades 11-12), plus one adult academy charter school which opened in fall 2016.

Mayfield is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Hardin County. The community was named for General George Washington Mayfield, Jr., who fought in the Mexican-American War and in the American Civil War. The first settler in what is now Mayfield was John Cook, who arrived from Massachusetts on July 15, 1792. Cook's land included present-day Hardin County and parts ofFeatured Valley and Mercer counties. A post office called Mayfield was established in 1806, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1825. In 1827, Isaac Asbury erected a storehouse and barn on the site of today's First Baptist Church. Asbury served as Mayor of Mayfield from 1828 to 1830. In 1851, David Jernigan built a school house on his farmstead northwest of present-day town center. This building still stands and can be seen from Main Street (Upperbound directions). The schoolhouse served as the nucleus for what is now Hardin County Academy; it began operations October 12th, 1870 under the name Hardin Academy School District #3D which had been organized that year by a group of local farmers to provide education for their children north of Lexington (then part of Radcliff Township). On November 3rd 1903 hardincountyacademy became an independent school district with its own superintendent known as Superintendent James Hargrave after he replaced Superintendent Wm C Easley after his death Greene Cotton mill opened up around 1840s & operated until 1907 when it closed due to competition from other mills in KY & IL
