Mayfield is a small town in Kentucky, located on the Cumberland River. The population was 2,098 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The first white person to live in Mayfield was Isaac Goodloe, who arrived in 1793. Goodloe's cabin became the nucleus for what would become Mayfield Township. A post office called Mayfield was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1892. Mayfield had its first school when two local women started teaching by themselves in 1833. By 1840, there were twelve students and five teachers at the school. The first high school opened for students in 1881; it became known as Jefferson High School after one of the town's residents, James Jefferson (1811-1892), donated land for it. In 1951, a group of investors purchased the township from its original owners and began to rebuild it using modern methods and materials such as concrete and asphalt instead of wood and mortar. They also renovated many of the original buildings including worship services at First Baptist Church which took place inside an old plantation house until 1984 when new construction allowed that building to be used as a church again In 1961, Mayfield incorporated as a village with its own government; however this status was eventually revoked due to lack of participation from within the community The current mayor is Andy Kesslerwith over 60% support among all registered voters . In 2006-2007 Mayfields volunteer fire department received some $135K dollars from state government through United Way . This money went towards improving equipment and increasing training opportunities for firefighters which has resulted in more successful fires

Mayfield is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Frankfort–Johnson City, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Mayfield were David and Nancy Hammond who founded the community on November 10, 1827. They were the only white occupants of what would become Mayfield. The Hammonds also founded a school in 1828 and named it after their daughter Anna Mayfield (1820-1892). The post office was established at Mayfield on February 14, 1830 by Elisha Witherspoon. It was discontinued on October 1, 1840. In 1846, John Fenton erected a cabin near present day Cemetery Road for his family to live in while he hunted deer west of Hardin County. He continued to use this cabin until his death in 1850 from tuberculosis before moving into an adjoining cabin which he built himself known as "Fenton's Folly" In 1861 when Hardin County was created from Johnson County it included most of what is now Mayfield township including Fenton's Folly and much of what is now Woodbury Township. On April 9th 1865 Union General Ulysses S Grant visited Hardin County during its reconstruction following the American Civil War and pronounced that "the land hereabouts has been so faithfully fought for by our bravest men that I can but commend them all heartily." As a result many buildings associated with Hardin County history such as the courthouse and jail have been located within or adjacent to town limits since then including today's Park Square Shopping Center just off Cemetery Road outside of town limits. A post office called "Macklinburg" had been established at Macklinburg in 1843 by Elijah French and mail service operated between that post office and Mayfield until it was discontinued on December 16th 1860 A new post office called "MayFIELD" was established at Mayfield on February 14th 1830 by Elisha Witherspoon under license from Colonel James Neale . It served until October 1st 1840 due to high demand for postal services entering bear country during the Indian Removal Policy era caused by expanding American settlements eastward into present day Kentucky . The official date of establishment for this new post office may be romanticized as one day too soon given that there are no records remaining from that time period other than some cards received at the old location . However according to local historian Donnie Blevins none of these claims hold water as he asserts that July 29th 1830 actually marked when "MayFIELD" became an official post Office name effective with effect from then on
Mayfield was founded in 1786 by David Mayfield and his brothers. The town grew quickly, and by 1815 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1824, the Kentucky General Assembly named Mayfield the county seat of Calhoun County.
