The Mayfield Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892. The club is one of the oldest rifle clubs in Kentucky. It is also one of the most active with over 350 members. In 1902, the Mayfield Rifle and Pistol Club became a state affiliate of the National Rifle Association.
Mayfield is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hardin County. The first permanent settlers in Mayfield were John and Jane Fisk who arrived in 1801. They named their farm "Fisk's Landing". A post office called Mayfield was established in 1807, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. A log courthouse was built in 1810 by Judge John Salyers. It burned down on July 12, 1811, but was rebuilt and used until it caught fire again on December 4, 1861. A new courthouse was erected from scratch by local builder Perry Stephenson and opened on January 11, 1862. It served as the county courthouse until it burned down on October 15 of that year. The first schoolhouse also built in Mayfield was located near what is now the Post Office building (now part of the old Methodist Church). This schoolhouse served as a day-school for children up to age 10 before it closed around 1840 because of lack of funds. A second schoolhouse which served as a night-school until about 1870 was located just east of present day Broadway Street between Kirkland Road and Cemetery Road; this schoolhouse also burned down during an attempted arson attack some time later (likely 1907). 2 more schools were constructed over time: one which served as a middle-school from about 1915 to 1925; and another which became known as "The Mayfields" after 1946 when its original site became available for sale following heavy development within the community – this latter school eventually merged with nearby Central High School to form Oneonta Village Middle/High School circa 1997/1998.) In 1896 there were only 30 people living within 5 miles of Mayfield when prohibition began making alcohol illegal across the state line into Kentucky; however by 1920 all but 2% had left for Prohibition-era Missouri City (population 30000), where they could still purchase liquor legally although not openly due to increased law enforcement activity outside of Lexington & Louisville proper – this exodus being largely responsible for generating much current housing & business development within what are today redeveloped areas around The MAYFIELD!

Mayfield is a small town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. It was founded in 1828 and named for Major General John Mayfield. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Mayfield is the hometown of college football player Johnny Manziel and current quarterback of the Cleveland Browns. The first settler in what would become Mayfield was James Butler who arrived in 1797. He built a cabin on a hill overlooking the town and naming it after himself. In 1828, Major General John Mayfield located his army here during his campaign against Mexican forces and named the town after him. The first post office opened in 1829 and continued serving until it closed in 1907. Mayfield experienced economic prosperity throughout most of its history due to its location by stagecoach routes between Louisville and Nashville (then called "the Broadway of America"). This allowed for significant trade with other parts of America as well as numerous agricultural products being transported here from distant states such as Missouri, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky etc.. In 1840-41 an affluent man by the name of Nathaniel Wright moved to Mayfield from Wheeling City WV where he had been running a huge flour mill owned by William Smith which became one of West Virginia's largest employers following its opening in 1792. Wright soon began importing large quantities of wheat from Canada via wagonloads brought downriver each day aboard steamboats operated by local farmers turned entrepreneurs Wm Henson & Co.. After harvesting their crops they took their wheat back upriver to be ground into flour which they sold at local stores or directly to consumers through means such as package subscriptions or door-to-door sales.. When railroads reached Appalachia in the late 19th century more people started traveling eastward instead of westward seeking opportunities for work although some did move away from farming altogether). A number of distinguished men associated with this period have been buried at nearby Mount Zion Cemetery including Colonel Robert Ewell (founder & Commandant), Captain David Bledsoe (commander 3rd Cav., Vietnam) & Mayor Charles Nourse (Mayor 1910-1914).
In 1821, the first post office in Mayfield was established. In 1826, the first store was built. The town grew rapidly and by 1830, it had a population of over 100 people. A school was founded in 1833 and soon became a popular place for local children to learn to read and write. The town also developed an agricultural economy with growing crops and livestock. By 1840, the population had increased to over 500 people, but by 1850 it had shrunk to just 50 people due to waves of immigration from Ireland and other parts of Europe. The town thrived during the American Civil War due to its close proximity to Louisville and its large amount of food storage capacity. However, on April 12, 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee attacked Mayfield when his army invaded Kentucky from Tennessee; this led to the town's ultimate downfall as many residents fled into surrounding counties or left for Louisville if they could.)
