Kenedy donated land near what is now their home for an hospital and clinic that bear his name today. In 1840, Governor Andrew Johnson appointed Judge John Cranch as justice of the peace here and soon afterwards stores were opened along with a hotel which became known as The Capitol Hotel. A gristmill also began operation in this time period and quickly became one of the largest mills in eastern Kentucky due to its production of flour for local consumption and export. In 1865, Colonel George Biddle bought 3 lots adjoining those used by Judge Cranch for $2 per acre which he divided among himself and developed into what are now Biddle Park (north), Main Street (south), and Second Avenue (west). This development brought much economic stability to Madisonville during its formative years; however, it ultimately failed due to competition from larger towns such as Frankfort or Lexington which had more developed business districts than either Madisonville or its founders could ever hope to replicate - they only managed modest growth rates over two decades while Biddle Parks grew rapidly into one of Eastern Kentucky's most popular tourist destinations today! Today, many businesses still operate within downtown Madisonville including several marketplaces/grocery stores/cafes/bars & restaurants all clustered together around Market Square - making it easy to find everything you need without leaving your doorstep!

The Caldwell family died out in 1889, but their donations live on through the foundation that administers the cemetery. The town of Madisonville was originally known as "Caldwell's Landing." It was renamed after James Caldwell's son, John Fenton Caldwell, when he settled there in 1849. John Fenton Caldwell was an important figure in the development of Louisville and his home is still standing today (it has been reconstructed). He also played a significant role in politics and life within the community. In 1868, he married Julia Holcombe and they raised two children – Julia Tilton Caldwell and James Fenton Caldwell II (known as Jim). After Julia Fenton Caldwell's death, Jim took on additional business ventures until his death at age 96 years old in 1984. Through his widow’s inheritance, he left behind numerous homes and businesses throughout Louisville proper as well as Easton County, Kentucky. Madisonville was founded in 1792 by James Robertson and is the oldest town in Kentucky. The community was named after Madison, an early settler in the area. In 1801, it became a post office and soon began to prosper as a trade center. The town had two stores, four churches, and many residents who were involved in commerce and farming. In 1814, the population of Madisonville reached 2,000 people. It continued to grow until its peak in 1846 when it had 7300 residents. However, during the late 19th century Madisonville experienced significant decline as its trade ties with other smaller communities dwindled and manufacturing declined in popularity in the area. By 1920 only 1000 residents remained of the original population of 3200 people.
