In 1978, the club changed its name yet again, this time to the Madisonville Gun Clubs Incorporated.
Madisonville is a town in and the county seat of Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 9,979 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson County metropolitan area. The first settlement at Madisonville was made by James Martin in 1812. He named it after his father, John Martin. In 1815, David Beavers settled here and started a gristmiller. By 1830, smallpox had decimated the local population and many settlers left for other parts of Kentucky or West Virginia. In 1832, General Jeptha Thackeray decided to settle what is now Hardin County in order to gain control over the region from Native American tribes who had been living there for centuries. He formed the nucleus of what would become Hardin County by moving settlers from present-day Lexington and Fayette Counties into Hardin Valley from nearby Pike County. In 1840, Thomas McNutt arrived in Madisonville to start a grocery store with his brother John McNutt Jr.. The store became one of the largest in eastern Kentucky and contributed much to early development hereabouts. In 1852, brothers James Murchison and John Gentry founded an agricultural society which did much to improvetilthand crop production on nearby farms while developingMadisonville as a commercial center with several stores and other businesses
