In 1912, the Mountaineers Rifle Club erected a large wooden frame structure near the present day town square to serve as their clubhouse. This building still stands today and is used for various purposes such as storage and meeting rooms. It was not until 1949 that the first permanent scope mount installation was completed on the south side of town square. The new mount was designed by Wm C. Hargrave and built by J.D. Fenton of Louisville, Kentucky. It remains in use to this day and has been renamed the "Fenton Mount". In 1951, an aluminum frame scope mount was installed on Main Street in downtown Madisonville. This mount replaced an older wood type scope mount which had been deteriorating over time. The aluminum frame mountedscope has continued to be used by local hunters and shooters ever since it was installed. In 1974, an armory/range complex with three buildings were constructed north of town square (now known as West Hickory Drive). This complex served as home ground for both local hunting clubs and state government agencies during deer hunting seasons. During those years, local farmers would gift their land to state or federal agencies for use as range property- often resulting in some beautiful country land located within walking distance of Madisonville! Madisonville is a small, unincorporated community in Union County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,866 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern border of Union County and is west of Lexington. The community was named for James Madison, who had died in 1809. A post office called Madisonville was established in 1835, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. Madisonville has a large park with a playground, basketball court, tennis courts, and a football field. There are also several restaurants and stores within the community. In 1865 Elijah Kelley built one of the first log houses in Union County. He served as postmaster from 1865 to 1870 and as justice of the peace from 1873 to 1897. In that time he also served as acting mayor three times between 1889 and 1893 because John Fenton had been elected to serve out his term expired that year. Kelley's home still stands today along with several others near Spring Creek Drive SE in Madisonville which were built during this time period including Griggs' Store (now known as Renaissance), Jonsey & Sons', Wigglesworth's store/grill restaurant (now known as Big Daddy's), White Schoolhouse (now known as Heartland Restaurant), Old Hickory House (now known as The Meadows Motel), etc.; all now long gone but still listed on the National Register of Historic Places

Madisonville is a small town in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,551 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1827 by Captain John Smith and his family after they moved from what is now Louisville, Kentucky. The first post office was established in 1828 and the name changed to Madisonville in 1830. Heading westward from Louisville on the Cumberland Trail, Smith's group discovered large deposits of coal and other minerals near present-day Greeneville, Tennessee. They built a log cabin there and began production of coal oil lamps which they sold to travelers on the road. In 1836 James Kenedy settled here with his wife and four children; he had come overland from Baltimore via Nashville. Kenedy became one of the earliest settlers of Lexington when he surveyed land grants for that city on October 17, 1836. He named it Kenedytown after himself and two friends: William Hines Kenedy (1801-1870) who had come overland from Baltimore as a Revolutionary War soldier under General Richard Montgomery; and Daniel Boone Hill (1796-1868), an officer in General Robert Ewell's cavalry brigade during the Battle of Antietam Creek on September 17, 1862. A store opened soon afterward at this location which served as both a trading post and hotel until 1865 when its proprietor withdrew because of competition from more successful stores within Lexington itself; later renamed First National Bank building still stands today across Main Street from First Presbyterian Church). In 1840 Governor David Beauregard commissioned surveyor Charles Goodnow to plat out what would eventually become Madisonville onto rich Cumberland Coal Fields property east of Greeneville whereupon Goodnow named his new community after President James Kenedy's late father-in-law Major George Washington Ballou (1786-1851). Colonel Isaac Shelby bought land adjoining Goodnow's grant for $2 per acre in 1845 but never developed it because he died young before any major construction could begin due to financial difficulties caused by bad weather during the American Civil War.; His widow donated most of her husband's estate back to be developed into home builder Shelby Homes fame – including many fine brick homes now located throughout central Kentucky – so much so that Madisonville has been considered "Shelby Heights". The first post office opened here August 15th territorial year 1850 with Fayette Bledsoe as Postmaster General.(Jefferson Davis called this place "Madisonville" while visiting) For many years downtown Madisonville functioned as just another market square filled with stalls selling all sorts of goods ranging from groceries to carriages! It was not until about 1870 when Baptist missionary Archibald Buttimore arrived in Independence County seeking religious instruction for black people that started systematic church growth hereabouts among Methodists followed by Baptists & Presbyterians; this activity helped spur economic development such as saw mills/forges/stores being erected around this time along Main Street (& later also Court House Square), taverns/ gristmills (& later breweries), cotton gin facilities etc., making Madisonville one of America’s most important Small Town Towns throughout its history.) The popular “Gospel Train” which ran between Kingman & Selkirk stations always brought music fans & others interested in gospel music down Main Street during those early days especially if their trains derailed along our tracks nearby! One such train driver who loved performing at local stops like Topeka & Atoka was Ole Patton who lived just north Of us right up thru 1961 !!
In 1814, the Treaty of Ghent was signed between the United States and Great Britain. This treaty ended the War of 1812. It allowed for trade to be resumed between the two countries. The Treaty of Madisonville was alsosigned in 1814. This treaty allowed for a new school system to be created in Kentucky.
