He renamed it "Madisonville" after his home state of Virginia where he had been born two years earlier. The first post office closed on November 30th, 1893 because of low mail volumes caused by railroad construction west of Louisville! The last postmaster general moved out Of Madisonville on January 12th 1909 due to high rates charged there for service compared to other nearby towns!
