Madisonville is a small town in Clay County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1830, Isaac Myrick erected a two-story log house on what is now Park Avenue near where he operated a sawmill. This became the nucleus of what would become Madisonville proper. In 1842, John Baker built an addition to his home on Third Street which became known as The Baker House after him. He served as mayor of Louisville from 1860 to 1862 and 1865 to 1870; and again from 1872 until his death in 1875. In 1840, Daniel Boone discovered what would eventually be known as Kentucky Caverns while exploring nearby Uniontown; he named it "Baker Cave". In 1845, David White opened White Hall Hotel in downtown Madisonville; it remains one of its most popular tourist destinations today. In 1861, Nathan Bedford Forrest opened Forrest General Store & Cafe in downtown Madisonville; it also remains one of its most popular tourist destinations today. In 1886, Edward Ladd added another two stories to his home on First Street which became known as The Ladd House after him; he served as mayor of Louisville from 1865 to 1870 and again from 1872 until his death in 1880). In 1907 Hinton Gentry donated land south of Seventh Street between Highways 61st and 63rd Streets for use as an agricultural college; this later became Western Kentucky University (). After World War II ended with Victory over Japan at Okinawa Ridge On July 22nd 1945 by General Dwight D Eisenhower Ulysses S Grant pronounced "Ichigo" (見えない) - meaning "I cannot see it" - during ceremonies marking that day at Fort Knox . American forces had liberated Kyushu Prefecture following monthslong siege beginning September 2nd 1945 when Imperial Japanese Army surrendered unconditionally aboard USS Missouri anchored off Fukishima Bay

Madisonville was founded in 1825 by James and Nancy McConnell. The McConnells were Scottish Presbyterians who had come to America to farm. They located their new community on the banks of the Ohio River, just downstream from what is now Cincinnati, Ohio. Madisonville quickly became an important cultural and commercial center for the region. It was known for its wine, cheese, clothiers and merchants, as well as its high school (now the University of Louisville). The McConnells also built a large brick courthouse in 1829 which still stands today. The town declined during the 1830s because of low population density and lack of available land. However, it revived in the 1840s when settlers began moving into the area from Kentucky and Tennessee. By 1850, Madisonville had grown to about 1,500 residents. Its heavy traffic attracted several major businesses: a paper mill (1851), a sawmill (1855), a flour mill (1860), and a wagon factory (1865). Thanks to these businesses,Madisonville became one of Kentucky's leading cities during this time period.
Madisonville was founded in 1785 by Major James Caldwell and his wife, Elizabeth. The Caldwells were the first white settlers in what is now Madison County, Kentucky. They named their new town after their home county of Madison, Virginia. In 1807, the Caldwells moved to a more permanent location and built the first cotton gin in Madisonville. The town grew rapidly and by 1830 it had a population of over 1,000 people. By 1840, Madisonville was considered one of the most important towns in Kentucky due to its location and importance as a cotton center. However, the town's prosperity came to an end during the American Civil War because of its dependence on slavery. The town was destroyed by Union forces during the war and its residents were forced to flee. In 1865, following the end of World War II,Madisonville became part of newly formed Kentuckiana. It has been redeveloped several times since then with various uses including manufacturing (such as plastics), retailing (including a Walmart), and residential development (such as an apartment complex). In recent years there have been efforts to revive the town's economy through marketing initiatives such as art walks or events related to traditional crafts such as weaving or corn farming
