Madisonville is a small town in the eastern part of the state of Kentucky. It is located on the county line between Hardin and Breathitt Counties, about 12 miles south of Louisville. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. The first bullets were shot in this town on October 17th, 1859 by William Hargrave. Madisonville has been home to many gunsmiths over the years who have made bullets for various firearms including pistols, shotguns, rifles and even machineguns. Bullet production peaked in the early 1920s with around 100 bullet manufacturers manufacturing bullets hereabouts. However since then it has decreased significantly as advanced technology has made more efficient ways to make ammunition available elsewhere.

Madisonville is a small town located in the far southeastern corner of Kentucky, just outside of Louisville. The population was 1,752 as of the 2010 census. Madisonville's history dates back to 1792 when it was known as Cedar Grove. It became a town on December 15, 1801. In 1814, it became the county seat of Hardin County. On January 16, 1835, Madisonville was renamed for James K. Polk and his wife Lucy Bogan Polk after they were married at the home of Mrs. Asa Gray in that community. The current courthouse building was erected in 1917 and is one of two remaining examples from the early 1800s still standing in Kentucky (the other is near Bardstown). The original courthouse also served as the jail from 1836 until 1861 when it burned down. According to the 2000 census there are now only 191 residents living in Madisonville – all but six of whom live within one mile of downtown where general store/post office/bank are located together on Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets. Madisonville is a small town in eastern Kentucky, United States. It was founded in 1820 by Captain John L. Smith and his family, who named it after the then-new County of Madison in Kentucky. The original settlers were farmers and their families, who farmed the land that now comprises the town. They built log homes and churches early on, but later developed into a busy commercial center with stores, businesses, schools, and more. In 1892, Madisonville became the seat of Campbell County and has since grown to be one of its most important communities. The town's economy is chiefly based on agriculture: The primary crops are corn, hay, oats, and potatoes; livestock includes cows/, pigs/, horses/carts/mules/, dogs/and poultry/. There are also a few manufacturing businesses such as a drygoods store and two machine shops. However, recent years have seen some growth in tourism: A ski resort is located within easy reach of the town; there are several golf courses nearby; and numerous summer festivals allow visitors to enjoy many activities around town while staying close to home.
Madisonville was founded in 1793 by James Robertson. The town was named for General William Madison, the third president of the United States. The first store in Madisonville was built on Fourth Street and operated by John Buchan. In 1827, a sawmill and grist mill were built in what is now the center of town. In 1847, a post office was established in Madisonville and continued to be used until it closed in 1930. A Methodist church was built in 1851 and remained operational until 1974. In 1865, the Tyler Railroad passed through Madisonville and connected with Louisville, Kentucky; this madeMadisonville an important hub for transportation during this time period. In 1868, a cotton gin and two other mills were built in what is now downtown Madisonville; these mills helped to stimulate the local economy and continue to produce goods for local consumers until they closed around 1960. The first high school in Madisonville opened on September 15, 1870; it was called “Hickory Hill” because Hickory Hill School House had been donated by Mrs. Anna Hickory (the daughter of Colonel David Hickory). The school became known as “Madison High” after that date. On October 1, 1889, the high school moved to its current building on Main Street which still stands today! In 1954-1955-1956-1957-1958-1959-1960-1961-1963-1964 classes were held at various schools across Lexington County due to construction projects adjacent to Lexington High School which necessitated additional classrooms within Lexington County Secondary Schools sites; these classes met at Maple Grove Baptist Church from September 25th thru December 5th each year! Classes returned back into Lexington High School on January 7th 1959 under new Superintendent Driscoll! Classes have continued sporadically ever since at various locations including Oakley Road Middle School & Administration Building before returning back to Maple Grove Baptist Church currently on February 3rd each year!
