It served as the town’s only mail service for about 15 years before being replaced by the present day USPS facility in Lyndon on November 6, 1916. The population of Lyndon peaked at 350 in 1920 but quickly decreased due to rural flight and other factors including World War I and the Great Depression. In 1941, when Kentucky became a part of the United States after World War II, Lyndon’s population shrank to just 36 people again due to wartime replacement rates and out-migration from other parts of Clark County. Despite its small size, Lyndon had some significant moments during its history including becoming one of the first towns in Kentucky to allow voting via absentee ballots (1892), becomingthe birthplace of both Ulysses S Grant (1845-1923) and Franklin D Roosevelt (1917-1945), hosting the first permanent electric light pole in Kentucky (1895), serving as an early center for education reform with its inception of public schools within what is now known as “Lyndon Park” (1900), being named one of America’s poorest Towns progressivism during Prohibition era through establishment of Bourbon distillery within town limits which produced high quality spirits for local consumption (1920-1924) Jim Crow laws were repealed following African American integration beginning with election victory over white majority county government in 1964 Local charity also played a role during this time period such as establishment/operation/continuation/maintenance/funding First Baptist Church which still operates today
