Lyndon, Kentucky is home to the oldest continuously operating gun lubricant company in the United States. The company was founded in 1874 by J.D. Nichols and W.H. Ellis as a small family business located on the town square in Lyndonville. The first product from the Nichols & Ellis line of lubricants was a water-based cleaner for firearms that was distributed through post office boxes across Kentucky and neighboring states. In 1935, J.D. Nichols passed away and his son, John D., took over the company’s operations as president and CEO. The firm continued to produce high quality lubricants until it merged with Royal Dutch Shell in 1986, which gave rise to another major production change at Nichols & Ellis: From water-based cleaners to oil-based products! The act allowed Americans living outside of states that had ratified similar constitutions to purchase land within their own state for $10 per acre (equivalent to $1 per square foot at current values). This event is often cited as being one of the motivations behindKentucky's move towards becoming an industrialized state during this period. Lyndon experienced some growth during World War II as many residents enlisted in military services or worked on production lines across the nation. The war also led to increased development around town with more housing developments being built along Route 66 as well as new businesses opening up such as a grocery store and post office within five years of its establishment. Afterward, much economic stability followed with few major changes taking place until 2000 when dramatic decreases in population occurred due primarily to various factors including joblessness and suburbanization
