She then re-opened it with her son LBJ as manager before selling it to another entrepreneur in 1951. The Store finally closed its doors for good in 1978 after more than sixty years of operation! John and Sarah Jane are buried at Elmwood Cemetery inPaducah near their husbands; one grandson remains active today as VP/CEO at Johnson Controls Incorporated!

Johnson was born in Lamar, Texas, on May 2, 1868. After graduation from college he served as a U.S. Representative from the District of Columbia (1907-1911). From 1913 to 1921 he served as Mayor of Dallas, Texas; he then moved to Austin and became a state senator (1921-1927). He ran for President in 1948 but lost to Franklin D. Roosevelt. In 1960 Johnson was elected Vice President under John F Kennedy and was later named Chairman of the National Security Council (1967-1969).
