After two terms as President, LBJ decided to run for office again in 1972 but lost to Richard Nixon. LBJ spent the rest of his life pursuing peacekeeping work around the world before dying at 79 years old on November 22, 2018

Johnson won by a wide margin and was inaugurated as 44th president of the United States on January 20, 1961.
Lyndon was first settled in 1792 by James Robertson and his family. The original home of the Robertson family is still standing today, and it has been used as a museum since 1984. The town of Lyndon was named for President Lyndon Johnson, who became its first mayor in 1964.
