In the early 1800s, Lexington was a busy town filled with farmers and leatherworkers. The residents of Lexington started to become interested in firearms, and soon there were many different types of firearms available for purchase. One of the first gun shops in Lexington was run by John Brownell. Brownell began selling handguns and shotguns in 1828 and eventually became one of the most successful gun shopkeepers in America. He also developed a reputation for being very accurate with his guns. The popularity of firearms quickly spread throughout Kentucky. Many people in Lexington began to own personal firearms, which helped contribute to the city's high crime rate during this time period. However, Brownell remains highly respected today as one of the most influential gun dealers in Kentucky history.

The Lexington Rifle and Pistol Club first made their appearance in 1876. The club was organized to promote rifle and pistol shooting in the city of Lexington, Kentucky. The first event held by the club was a pistol match between it and the local rifle society. In 1881, the club organized its own annual firearms competition which would become known as the Lexington Gun Show.
Lexington, Kentucky is a city in the U.S. state of Kentucky and the county seat of Clark County. The population was 27,895 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the Ohio River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Cincinnati and 40 miles (64 km) north-northwest of Louisville. Lexington is home to both the University of Kentucky Wildcats football team and the United States Marine Corps Reserve unit Lexington Armory. The early history of Lexington goes back to 1792 when it was part of Virginia's Colony of Maryland and became a part of Kentucky when that state was created in 1801. The city was named for General James Wilkinson who fought against British forces during America's Revolutionary War at Fort Donelson, Tennessee in 1796. In 1802, President Thomas Jefferson renamed Old Louisville as Lexington after he moved his presidential residence there from Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia. The town grew rapidly with many businesses being established including mills, distilleries, factories, and homes for prominent citizens such as Richard Clay Pemberton and Andrew Jackson. During this time period also occurred one of America’s first mass shootings when John Brown killed six people at Harper’s Ferry in 1859 before he was shot dead by local militia members

The modern firearms industry began in the late 1860s with the development of The Colt Rifle and Company, which produced gunstocks and barrel manufactures. In 1875, Henry Repeating Arms Co., Inc., was founded as a manufacturer of revolver rifles. The company became part of Browning Firearms and Ammunition Corporation in 1907. It merged with Remington Arms in 1928 to become Remington Rand. In 1934, it merged with Waltham Firearms Corporation to form Winchester Repeating Arms Company. In 1945, it merged with Savage Arms to become Savage Press LLC.
When Kentucky achieved statehood in 1792, it was a part of the Virginia Colony. The first Kentucky county, Breathitt County, was formed on December 1, 1805. In 1812, Jefferson Davis became President of the United States and ordered all U.S. Territories to become states. On January 6, 1861, when Confederate forces sacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina, Kentucky automatically seceded from the Union and joined the Confederacy. From then until late 1865 when it finally surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Lexington experienced one of the most dramatic changes in its history as an agricultural center and industrial center in America. The city's rich colonial history is readily apparent throughout downtown Lexington where several large buildings date back to before 1800 such as the old courthouse and jail now used as apartments or a restaurant called "The Olde Mecklenburg". Other structures dating back to before 1800 include two churches (one original), several factories (including one that produced cannons for the Confederate army), three banks (two national ones and one local), four hotels/motels - including two that still stand today - twenty-five stores (of which only six remain open), and numerous smaller businesses including taverns, grocery stores/markets, coffeehouses/bookstores/, clothing stores/, sawmills/, grist mills/, blacksmiths/, carriages/wagons./ etc., making Lexington one of largest cities in America at that time. After secession came tragedy though: more than 400 people were killed byUnion troops during what is known as Bloody Sunday when Confederate soldiers assassinated Southern Governor John Connally inside his home in Louisville; over 1 million people were forced into slave labor within five years after secession; more than 100% of KY's female citizens were kept into servitude through 1863-1865; around 60% of all coal mined in America went into production here; while manufacturing jobs shifted from agriculture to munitions plants and other heavy industry during this period - much like they have since done again across many rural towns across Appalachia throughout Appalachians region -none of these factories resulted in any significant job growth for Lexington residents outside of menial positions such as assemblers or cleaners/. In fact opposite happened: with larger numbers of middle class families moving away from rural areas towards larger Cities like Louisville due to cheap land prices and limited accessible transportation options while remaining largely self-sufficient due to good ol' country skillsets; while small farmers & ranchers lost their ability to sell their product directly to consumers via mail order or even handcrafting products themselves.. This gradual process has continued up until our present day with increasing suburbanization & subdivisions along Interstate 65 cutting off much needed access & bypassing smaller villages / hamlets within minutes (& sometimes less) distance.. While some aspects have remained relatively unchanged over time - such as a strong community spirit among locals who continue interacting closely via traditional means such as barbecues / cookouts each year on Memorial Day weekend -much has changed both physically& mentally since 1861 when Lexington attained its current form..
In 1775, the British burned down the old French Fort Donelson in Lexington. The town was founded by Captain James Wilkinson in 1779 and named for General Andrew Jackson. The first store was built near present-day Elm Street and Second Avenue. The town's population grew rapidly and soon there were several schools, a courthouse, a hospital, gristmill, wagon road, and ferry across the river. In 1801, Lexington became an independent republic under President Thomas Jefferson. The city's growth caused social unrest which led to its incorporation as a city on December 15th of that year by an act of the Kentucky General Assembly. That same year saw the construction of Interstate 65 which crossed the river at this location. The city has undergone many changes throughout its history including becoming an center for technology with multiple businesses such as Amazon and Facebook located here, being called "the most liveable city on earth" by Forbes Magazine in 2018, and being ranked as one of America's "most innovative cities" by MIT Technology Review
