The post office was established at Lawrenceburg on November 15, 1877, by George Withers. It served until January 6, 1939. The first postmaster was James Pemberton. Because of its location on Ulysses S Grant Boulevard (now KY Route 127), Lawrenceburg became an important transportation center for southeastern Kentucky during this time period as well as a popular tourist destination due to its natural beauty and unique history

Lawrenceburg is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Lawrenceburg were Levi Coffin and his family who arrived in 1811 from Virginia. They built a cabin on the banks of the Little River and named it "Cabin Creek." Over time they added other coves to their name such as Cove Road and Cove Lake. In 1820, Captain John Smith built a small log cabin near what is now downtown Lawrenceburg on land patented by James Kenedy. The first post office was established at this location in 1825. In 1830 Samuel French opened a store in downtown Lawrenceburg which became the town's nucleus for many years until it burned down in 1859. In 1881, Andrew Mellon donated $10,000 to build a school for girls (now known as Elizabethtown Female College) in downtown Lawrenceburg which became one of America's earliest female universities. The city also received an additional donation of $5,000 from J P Morgan to help finance construction of a larger courthouse and jail which were completed in 1893-1894%. Lawrenceburg developed rapidly during the 1920s with new housing erected along High Street including many brick buildings designed by architects Arthur Ashe and others that are still standing today including McIntosh Hall (now home to West Kentucky University), Beasley Chapel (now home to Butler University), First Baptist Church (now home to Stonington Presbyterian Episcopal Church), Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (later become First Baptist Parish) and much more. During World War II local businesses made significant contributions both through manufacturing production for soldiers overseas or providing supplies like munitions or gasoline while also building airfields here such as Camp Robinson Air Base just east of town where Boeing Airlines had its headquarters from 1942-1948 before moving back upriver into Louisville proper after that war's end; then again through smaller contributions like those made by business people throughout Appalachia during peacetime too! Lawrenceburg was founded by the McKee family in 1853. The town was named after General John A. McClernand, who fought in the Mexican-American War and was later a general in the Union army. The first store in Lawrenceburg opened on Main Street in 1855. In 1865, the town had a school and post office. By 1870, the population of Lawrenceburg had reached 100 people and it contained a hotel, two churches, a mill, four businesses and twelve homes. In 1881, gold was discovered at what is now Comstock Mines and Lawrenceburg began to grow as an agricultural center due to its location close to the mineral fields. By 1890, there were twenty-one businesses in town with a total income of $5 million. In 1900, Lawrenceburg's population had grown to over 300 people and it contained a hospital, three schools (grades 1-8), two churches ( denominations varying) and thirty-six homes. The growth of the town led to new housing developments being constructed along Main Street between 1893-1905 which increased the number of homes from 156 to 552 within ten years!
