The Postmaster General authorized the shooting of targets at sunrise and sunset to promote shooting sports. In 1868, a rifle range was built adjacent to the courthouse in what is now known as the Park location. This range later became known as Hardeman County Rifle Range and still functions today as one of the top ranges in Kentucky. The first handgun target in Lawrenceburg was erected by Wm Hays at his home northeast of town on November 3, 1881. This target was made of oakum and had a small iron crosshair on it representing a real live person or animal. It reflects that early firearms were not only used for hunting but also for practicing Aiming and Shooting skills with handguns. In 1932, theHardeman County Agricultural Extension Service began purchasing land east of downtown from Ephraim Hanks for use as their new pistol range which would eventually become known as Hardeman County Gun Range (HCGR). HCGR continues to operate today with over 100 different targets included including 30-bore shotguns, 12-gauge rifles, pistols and revolvers!

Lawrenceburg is a small town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. Lawrenceburg is one of two towns in Pike County that have been authorized to participate in the Jefferson Parish government by an act of the Louisiana Legislature on May 3, 1999. The town was founded about 1812 as Lawrenceburgh and changed its name to Lawrenceburg in honor of General Andrew Johnson (1765-1849). The community was settled by Methodists from Caldwell County, South Carolina during the antebellum period. A Presbyterian church was built there in 1831 and dedicated by Bishop James Denny. At first, only men were allowed to own land; but when women became interested in farming after their emancipation from slavery, they started buying land too. In 1865 a post office called Lawrenceburgh opened and remained open until it closed in 1902. During World War I, Lawrenceburg served as a supply depot for American forces deployed throughout France and Belgium. After the war, many businesses reopened including a barber shop and grocery store operated by J C Pritchett which became well known throughout the region for its excellent ice cream flavors such as vanilla extract and chocolate ripple. When Interstate 65 bypassed downtown Louisville eastward around 1990, most residents left for what had become an unincorporated community located just west of I-65 on State Route 291 south of Ft Wayne Furniture Outlet mall with access only through state Routes 421 and 291 northbound between Indianapolis Junction (SR 421) and Mt Vernon Rd./Route 515 northeast of Ft Wayne Furniture Outlet mall; all other directions were off limits until recently because I-65 has since been widened considerably beyond its original routing eliminating much rural agricultural valley floor between SR 421/291 exit ramps/mall entrances near Ft Wayne Furniture Outlet

In 1865 General Jourdan's Army invaded America during the Civil War and burned most of Louisville but spared Lawrenceburg which must have been a relief to many families because it never happened again until after World War II when large numbers of soldiers came through here looking for work on farms orchards or elsewhere in Central Kentucky
