Lawrenceburg, Kentucky is a small town located in Fayette County, Kentucky. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is the second-most populous community in Fayette County after Louisville. The first people to inhabit Lawrenceburg were settlers from Pennsylvania who arrived in 1781. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Licking River. The town began to form when entrepreneurs decided to make a cotton plantation in what was then Huntingdon County. They named their new venture "Lawrenceburg" after General James Lawrence, an American hero and member of the Continental Army who helped secure independence from Great Britain. The town grew rapidly because of its natural resources: logging and farming opportunities along the Ohio River made it possible for Lawrenceburg to become one of America's leading agricultural communities. During World War II, Lawrenceburg submitted bids for military housing projects that were selected by the United States Military Commanding General Europe (USMCGE). At war's end, Lawrenceburg had become one of America's most thriving post-war industrial towns. The economy changed again when Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005 and destroyed many businesses and homes throughout Louisiana and Mississippi; however, few damage was done to Lawrenceburg. In response to Hurricane Floyd which passed through Alabama on September 8th, 2008 without causing any injuries or loss of life, Mayor Tom Tipton convened a Town meeting that discussed ways to improve preparedness for future disasters such as these events . At that meeting, he also announced plans for $4 million in upgrades including new sidewalks and road Repair/Maintaining Project funds will also be used for infrastructure improvements like cracked water mains that can now be repaired quickly with little or no cost - this will prevent long-term water shortages which could impact residents' quality of life significantly! Today, Lawrenceburg is home to over 7500 people who enjoy easy access to shopping malls and other tourist attractions located close by while still remaining within commuting distance for locals working in surrounding municipalities like Dayton or Lebanon. Lawrenceburg is a town in Sullivan County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sullivan County. The first settlers in what became Lawrenceburg were three families from Virginia who arrived in 1790. They built a cabin on the side of a hill overlooking the town and named it for their home state of Virginia. The original post office was established in 1802 and called "New Market." In 1859, the name changed to "Lawrenceburg" after General James Lawrence, who fought in the American Civil War and later served as governor of Kentucky. In 1865, when Union Brigadier General William Tecumseh Sherman came through Sullivan County on his march through eastern Kentucky during the Civil War, he stopped at Lawrencesburg for lunch before continuing his journey southward. Sherman was impressed by how well-mannered and orderly residents were while living near what would become Louisville under Confederate rule. After the war ended, General Sherman ordered all white people born within five miles (8 km) of Louisville be deported to that city or put into slavery; however, some residents chose to stay and rebuild their homes. Consequently, when he moved his headquarters from downtown Louisville to Lexington two years later, he ordered local leaders to find new places for those affected by his orders. One result was that many homes inLawrenceburgh remained standing until after World War II when they were demolished due to lack of retaining walls or other protection against wind erosion When coal mining ceased operations between 1920 and 1925 due to competition from oil production in nearby states such as Texas and Oklahoma City, much of Lawrenceburgh's industry disappeared with it also leaving many small businesses behind which have continued operating ever since including several grocery stores still open today as well as numerous other small businesses that are either still active or have been reborn over time such as an ice cream store/confectionery complex now known as The Ice Cream Factory & More which once produced milk shake mixes made only with ice cream rather than sugar which helped explain why there are still many hand-held ice cream machines running today even though most supermarkets now produce more modern flavors like yogurt and fruit
