The settlement grew rapidly due to its location near Logstown River and its access to water transportation from nearby KY Route 460. By 1810, there were over 25 buildings in Lawrenceburg with a population of 350 residents. After surveys by Captain David Wilkinson in 1818 showed that much more land could be developed within Greene County without blocksading the river's flow, Colonel John Brown charted a new route downriver which led to downtown Lawrenceburg on present day First Street about two miles east of where he had established his original settlement. In 1830, General Robert Ewing purchased 640 acres (2 km²) within present day Lawrenceburg limits from Colonel John Brown for $1 million dollars USD (). Upon Ewing's death in 1840, most of this land passed into private hands until it was sold off to various buyers during Reconstruction days following America's Civil War (). One such buyer was Daniel Webster who donated 443 acres (15 km²) including downtown Lawrenceburg to make way for new homesites on Elk Drive () between 1850 and 1860 (). This large piece of property would become one of downtownLawrenceburg's most iconic features – now home to both the city hall building dating back to 1802-3 as well as many other historic structures dating back 100+ years! During World War IIthousands people worked at local munitions plants providing jobs throughout Greene County while also providing essential supplies like foodstuffs and gasoline needed by our troops overseas!
