In 1836, the legislature granted land to John Prentice for a school district; it remains one of the largest school districts in Kentucky today. In 1865, an act authorized erection of a Masonic Lodge No. 8 on land donated by Samuel Browning (1792-1868). The lodge has been active ever since and still meets monthly to this day. The first store opened in what is now Lawrenceburg in 1865 and soon became an important stop on the trading route between Louisville and Cincinnati. This store was also the first post office in Lawrenceburg, which opened on November 13th, 1865

Lawrenceburg is a town in and the county seat of Bourbon County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1825 by Colonel John Hays as an agricultural community located on the north side of what is now downtown Lawrenceburg. The name "Lawrenceburg" came from a Shawnee chief's Indian name for the area which was called "Hancock". A post office was established at Lawrenceburg in 1829, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1848, General George Pemberton unsuccessfully tried to defeat pro-slavery forces led by John C. Frémont at nearby Mount Sterling Summit while rallying Confederate troops under his command. As a result of this victory, slavery in Kentucky was abolished within months and Lawrenceburg became an abolitionist stronghold. John Fenton began construction of what would become Pioneer Cabin Lodge No. 1A – one of America’s first brick buildings – in 1854 as a hotel for travelers passing throughLawrenceburg on their way to or from Louisville or Nashville. This pioneer enterprise served as both a lodging facility and marketing center for Fenton’s new resort town known today as Fayetteville on the Cumberland River; it remains one of only two such structures remaining from that period in central Kentucky still standing (the other is Pioneer Cabin Lodge No 2A). It wasn’t until 1861 when Executive Order 10607 created Jefferson Davis County, including Lawrenceburg within its boundaries; this event helped spur development around the town with businesses like grocery stores, hardware stores, restaurants and hotels opening up along State Route 62 across from present-day Bluegrass Boulevard/KY 921st Street/Old US Highway 82 / KY 375th Street between Lancaster Pike (then Bluestone Pike) and Old Hickory Road (now US 421st Street). These early pioneers played critical roles in creating what we know today as western Kentucky: they built roads and schools; they planted crops; they raised livestock; they constructed homes; they mined coalitions during the Civil War – all while living within easy reach of Louisville or Nashville! In 1923 Lafayette College moved into its current building adjacent to Third Street east of Main St., then known as West Main St.; this marked also the commencement of easternKentucky’s first university education mainstreaming since 1792 when James Kenedy opened Jameson Academy near what is now Georgetown University!
