Jeffersontown is a small town in Butler County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1814 by General John Jeffers and his family as a trading post on the Ohio River. In 1836, it became the county seat of Butler County. Jeffersontown grew rapidly after World War II as people migrated to its townsite for jobs in the new industrial areas nearby. However, the area's prosperity declined during the late 1990s and 2000s due to economic downturns in surrounding counties. The town has been struggling to maintain its modest economy since 2001 and has been hampered by low population growth, low property values, andlimited access to education and shopping opportunities. In July 2018, Jeffersontown Mayor Jesse Eldredge announced that he would not seek reelection because of his increased expenses from running for office as well as high taxes levied on residents serving on city council. Eldredge had previously served two terms as mayor and was term-limited under Kentucky state law; he could not run again until 2020 despite being one of only a few incumbent mayors who were not re-elected in 2018 amid statewide Republicans' efforts to consolidate all local government control over Kentuckiana under one platform across all levels of government (see also "Kentucky governor signs bill consolidating all local government control over Kentuckiana").

By the 1860s, many institutions had been built throughout America capable of conducting Variable Star Observations, including Cephalon Observatory at Syracuse, New York; Kitt Peak Observatory at Tucson, Arizona; and Monticello Observatory near Phoenix, Arizona. Throughout these years there were constant efforts by amateur observers to improve upon existing technology so that they could make better observations ofvariable stars and planets. One such effort was led by George FitzRoy who developed a refractor telescope in 1868 which he used to observe Uranus and Neptune through optical means alone! With advances in optics and engineering technology over time, it has become increasingly possible for amateur observers around the world toObserve variables with great accuracy using modern equipment!

Jeffersontown is a small town in Marshall County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 3,648 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. The first post office in Jeffersontown was established on January 6, 1851, by George Washington Jefferies. The name changed to Marshall on October 14, 1882. Jeffersontown was founded by Captain James Hance and his family on November 24, 1830 as a trading post called "Hance's Landing." The original settlers were mainly Unitarian Mission workers from Boston who arrived in covered wagons and named their new community after Captains James Hance and David Wilkinson. On December 5, 1830 the town charter was granted to Captains Hance and Wilkinson by Governor Claiborne Stevenson. The white settlers began building log cabins which they called "Hancock's Dwelling Place." By 1840 most of the early settlers had left for other locations due to disease concerns brought about by the American Revolution. By 1845 all but one person living in Hancock's Landing were dead from smallpox contracted during the war with Mexico In 1850 Captain James Hance organized a wagon train which transported goods upriver to Louisville from settlements downriver including Hancock's Landing On December 10th of that year he erected a long shed or plank storehouse near where he now stands along Church Street just north of High School (now University) Drive In1875 John Witherspoon opened an agricultural store next door to Captian James' warehouse while Masterman operated an general store across High School Road east of Market Square These stores are still standing today as part of today's Jeffersontown shopping area . In 1865 Captain James Hance sold his land parcels that comprised much of what is now downtown Jeffersontown for $2 per acre This event started what would eventually become downtown development as many prominent citizens donated their land holdings over time . Some notable people who contributed money or property include Judge Isaac Neely (founder/president Of First National Bank), Sam Rayburn (former Speaker Of The House), Donelson Slaughter (founder/President Of Slaughter Paper Company), Reverend Dr John Saucier (a Presbyterian minister) , Benjamine Smith (founder/owner And CEO Of Home Depot ), Judge William Taney (seated US Supreme Court Justice) – all individuals who played significant roles in later years downtown development
